Re-posted from July 2011:
So I know that frequent urination can be expected in the third
trimester. But, seriously I feel I pee a lot. I usually get up at least
2-3x/night and during the day it's at least every 2-3 hours. I do drink a
lot of liquids, so maybe that is why...
I had my 32 week
appointment on Monday and the doctor had me take a urine culture, which
of course came back contaminated. I don't know how it can be
contaminated since I followed all the directions correctly. So I went
yesterday to retake the test. Hopefully this one won't be contaminated! I
don't have any pain, burning or discomfort. I'm really hoping it's not a
UTI or some kind of infection and just a regular pregnancy symptom.

I've always peed often, and pregnancy has made it 10 times worse.
Starting a couple weeks ago (probably when the baby dropped), I get up every 1-1.5 at night to pee, so like 5-6 times. I probably go every 1-2 hours during the day. If I've just drank a bunch (like lunchtime) it will be even sooner.
I feel like I need to by stock in Charmin or something!
I drink over a gallon of water a day (per my doctor's instructions), so I pee at least once an hour when I'm awake. If I only peed every 2-3 hours, it would be because I was dehydrated or massively retaining fluid. As for keeping your urine sample uncontaminated, here's the procedure my urologist taught me:
Wash your hands thoroughly.
Clean your vulva and urinary areas well with the moist antibacterial towelettes most doctors provide.
Begin peeing and wait until you have a full stream. This helps to knock any remaining contaminates off of your skin.
Then, place the collection cup into your stream and fill it halfway.
Then, you do the usual clean up and wash your hands again.
This!
