C-Section mamas...

I'm 4 months pp and my incision site still gets achey/sore sometimes. It aches (don't really want to say hurts b/c its not like I'm doubling over in pain) when I sneeze, cough, or laugh hard. If I go on a long walk it also gets pretty sore. I really want to start running again but since it gets sore walking, I'm afraid to run.

I've been back to yoga since 5 weeks pp, but there are still poses that ache.

Is this normal?

  • Yes, it's normal.  Mine bothered me for a long time.  Ironically, after my second, once I got past the healing stage (like 8 weeks) it feels better than it did before.

    Janet that is awesome.

Mine ached for a long time.  At least a year.  I noticed it ached more when I got my psuedo cycle every month.  I'd get PMS, cramps and an achey scar for about a week, but no bleeding.

  • Normal, and from what I've been told when I've asked that question it could be permanent.  Mine still hurts almost 3 years later and it sceeves me out even though I *know* that I'm healed.

  • Yep. It's normal. They cut through a LOT of nerve endings and those are trying to reform and regrow. It can be a year before you're well healed.

I had hernia repair a few years before my first c/s and even 6m after that I still felt occasional numbness over my abdomen.

  • Thanks. Hate the constant reminder.

I know what you mean about the reminder...but now that H is getting so big...I look at my scar and think, wow how the heck did my baby fit through that? It kind of flips it for me into a positive visible reminder about how much he's grown and that he was once so tiny (well, tiny for H at least). ;)

    Let's do coffee/dinner/whatever...SOON!

  • Another ditto on that it's normal. Mine used to irritate me always around my period---would even get more inflamed since it was a keloid. But at about the 2-2.5 yr mark I noticed the keloid wasn't there anymore and I didn't feel much of the same sensations as earlier. Of course now at almost 5 yrs pp I get little twinges every now and then along the scar.
  • 4 years later and I still have discomfort on mine!  i think it is normal and has to do with how your wound healed, etc

With my first I didn't have any residual issues but with my 2nd I have had a lot and 2 years out it's not sore anymore but it's incredibly nerve sensitive so if the kids step on it the wrong way I'm peeling myself off the ceiling.

I would definitely hold off on the running if walking is making it sore.

Love this!  What a great way to look at it!

  • I think that's pretty normal. I'm not so much achy, but the incision is still sensitive.
