Infant Shoes

I haven't worried about footwear for Mr. O because I heard that barefoot is best for their developing feet. However, we were going out to the mall last night and I realized he should probably have something on his feet. (Socks looked a little odd with shorts.) I know he needs to be measured, but do I have to cough up the money for StrideRite or can I go to Payless? Anything else I need to know about baby shoes??

Re: Infant Shoes

  • If he's not walking, I'd recommend a soft soled leather shoe like Robeez.

  • We used Robeez before DS was walking - now we have some sandals from Target and a pair of Nikes that we got from a friend :)  We never bought Stride Rites.  Also, pretty sure last summer we kept him barefoot most of the time, even when we were out and about since he wasn't walking or anything.

  • Barefoot is the way to go.  Henry hardly wore anything last year and the year before that even with shorts it was barefoot.

  • We took DS to Stride Rite and got him measured but they didnt happen to have any shoes in store in his size so we went to Payless and got him a few pairs. I know they say barefoot is best but we've found that Nicholas does better with practicing walking when he is in hard soled shoes. But he has limb asymmetry so that might be why. Either way he has a nice pair of lace up tennis shoes, a pair of casual velcro tennis shoes, a pair of work boots to match daddy and a pair of brown sandals that he has been wearing lately. FWIW I got the sandals at OUAC.

ETA: While Nicholas is older than your LO he has REALLY small feet. His shoes are all infant size 2.

  • Nora is mostly barefoot but we've got a couple of cute pairs of soft-soled shoes from Baby Gap and Robeez (found at Marshalls). I also couldn't help myself and we have a couple of cute shoes from Target, but she doesn't wear them very often.
