I learned a very valuable lesson today

We got a letter in the mail from our cell phone carrier that we were off network for over 50% of our usage because DH was away at training(s) so much. So, we decided to switch last night. Big mistake. The new carrier doesn't work in our house or on the property very well at all. It's slow when I was out and about today. And we traded in our phones to help with the cost of the new phones. So, if/when we switch back to the other carrier we don't get our old phones back to turn back on. It was in the paperwork that I signed last night with two crazy kids pulling on us. I didn't know this though until I went to pick up my new phone this morning after the data transfer. I'm going to talk to DH but we're most likely switching back to our old carrier who worked great in the house. When DH has training again then he can find what carrier really works the best there on network and buy a pay as you go phone so we can keep in communication. I'm just peeved with myself for not reading all the fine print in terms of our old phones. At least we can say we've now tried three of the major carriers. Ugh!

  • I guess I don't know what you mean by on/our of network.  What if you had a national plan?  Would that fix that?

  • It was a national plan. But, some of the areas that DH goes the old carrier doesn't really have their own network. They rent space off existing towers. They want to service people that stay within their existing owned network.
  • So what was their problem with you being out of network? I know I've seen our phone go out of network before (especially when we're traveling) but it's never amounted to anything. Were they charging you for being out of network or were they just whining to you about it?

  • Do you mind my asking which carrier you switched to?  Every now and then DH and I consider switching just to switch (I know it sounds crazy) but then we always stick with who we have because they've always been pretty awesome to us when we had issues.
