Going to strangle the wedding planner...bridezilla moment?

So, after everything has been decided and we are only 3 weeks from the wedding - my wedding planner is trying to up-sell us on additional footage time for our videographer.    Simply so that she has enough time to be in the rooms while we get ready.    This is not of priority to me, since our photographer will be in the room with us girls getting ready.

We are already $15,000 over budget after we were told that our original $25,000 budget would get us everything we wanted (by the wedding planner).

Is a videographer really worth an extra $700 just to have in the room with the bridal party and capturing the guys when they get ready??

Love having to deal with this when all I want to deal with is BABY!!!!

Am I being a Bridezilla?

  • We didn't even have a videographer!!! My dad set the video cam on the tripod in the choir loft of the church!    I would totally not upgrade the video.  I have never even watched the footage from mine and it was almost 3 years ago....totally not worth the money.  Pictures is what people will look at/see way more than a video anyway.

  • I wouldn't spend money on that. In reality, how often are you even going to watch the movie? I've watched mine twice maybe and I could care less about the video...my actual photos say a lot more than the movie.

  • I agree with the PP. I had a videographer, but just a basic one. And actually, I was so stressed as we were getting ready that I really didn't want any pictures or video anyway. Once I was ready, I was relaxed and then they could snap/film away. But before then, I just wasn't in the mood.

  • We didn't have a videographer either.  My brothers friend is handy with a video camera and taped our ceremony and part of the reception for us.  That was enough for me! Like PP's said, how often are you REALLY going to watch it? You'll have plenty of professional pics to remember the day by too.

ETA: I was pretty stressed too getting ready and trying to remember everything that day.  The last thing I'd want is a video camera in my face (photographer is different!) when I'm trying to gather myself! lol

  • You know what you want. Don't let the wedding planner push unnecessary things on you at the last minute because of stress. I'm sure you have a beautiful day planned.

  • Just say NO, unless she is giving it for free ;).  We didn't have a videographer, I look much more graceful in still frames.

  • I am getting married in 3 months, and its a VERY small thing. My first (and only prev) wedding, we had a big wedding, and I didnt get a videographer. I didnt see it to be worth the money. We had someone video tape the ceremony, we didnt even watch it till like a year later!!

  • I'd say no. We decided not to go with a videographer because we didn't really see ourselves watching our wedding. Kind of depends on you and how much you feel you will get out of the video.

The problem with weddings and budgets is you can easily spend $500-1000 more on every piece and pretty soon all of those things add up, like you said, you are already 15k over. For everything, you need to decide what is really important to you and if its not, then don't spend money (or extra) on it.
