Am I the only one who doesn't like Sandra Boynton books?

Well, I guess  I shouldn't say I don't like them.... but IMO they just don't make much sense. Like the going to bed book- aren't they in a submarine? I could be wrong on that....

And the Blue Hat Green Hat one is cute because of the "oops" part, but it always bothered me that there wasn't one more page showing the guy dressed in clothes all wet from the water.

I dunno, I just think her books aren't that great, maybe because my kids never seemed to think much of them?

No?

  • I have no idea who she even is....we don't own any of her books.  I've never gone out to buy the boys specific books really.  Most of the ones we own were either gifts or I bought them at sales.  I'd just buy any that were in good condition, so I've never really payed much attention to the author.

  • Do any children's books make sense? For example, any Dr.Suess, or the purple cats or blue horses in Eric Carle's books?

  • I was starting to think I was the only person who didn't like them. I definitely prefer Mo Willems or Doreen Cronin.
  • I like her pictures, but I don't go out of my way to read the books.  I bought the "going to bed" book when we were going through a phase with Justin, but it never really caught on with him, or DH or me.

For us, it's that B LOVES them.  Seriously loves them...  dances, laughs, giggles, etc...  So since he caught on to them, they're a hit in our house.  Until he caught onto them, I also thought they were pretty dumb.
  • I totally hear you. BUT--Nat loves the two we have. She almost reads them along with me and every time I finish it she says "again". Usually, she closes a book before I even have time to finish it.

  • Ellie has "Moo Baa La La La" and "The Going to Bed Book." I agree with you, I'm not a huge fan. When she was younger, she loved them, but she's outgrown them.

I much prefer books that actually make any sense. They don't necessarily have to have a plot at this point, and "wrong" color animals in Eric Carle books don't bother me either. But Ellie has a few books that are just so stupid that I have been known to hide them.

  • I think my aversion to them has less to do with the books and more to do with the author's name. We always read the title, author and illustrator info first and I always feel like I'm going to say "boinking" instead of Boynton. Yes, I'm deranged...
  • I've never gotten into them either.  We have a couple and I tried to get more at the library after seeing a post on here about them, but my kids stood up and ran away after I started reading one.

I need to find that Moo Baa La la one...

  • One of the most popular children's books is Goodnight Moon and I don't get it at all. It's such a weird book. I have read it to DS, but I just think it's so weird. Goodnight nobody? So weird.

  • They're ok. DH loved them as a kid apparently so my ILs make a big deal about them. We have Moo Baa La La La, The Going to Bed Book, Doggies (DO NOT BUY THIS - you have to read all the barking noises over and over and over again), 15 Animals, and But Not the Hippopotamus. The hippo one is the only one I pick on purpose. I figure my ILs read them all to her enough when they see her that I can read my favorites, like Llama Llama Red Pajama and Corduroy.

HaHaHa! No lie, I just said the EXACT SAME THING (to DH), two days ago, about this book.

  • Oi. My stepmother bought us 2 of them (Moo Ba lalala, and the hippo one). So dumb. I anticipate that Ash will love them. Hah.

seriously! this is one of the books I read her that I am done with... I noticed she says goodnight to things she doesn't even mention in the beginning...
