little late but - how was everyone's Mothers Day?

Unless I missed a post, we never discussed. Did everyone have a nice, relaxing day with their LOs?

I spent most of the day visiting with my grandfather and then traveling home. When I got back around 5:00, there were flowers and cards (from DH and J). DH had cleaned the house - he even scoured the fridge! - and we had a nice dinner and wine after J went to sleep. It was pretty awesome :-)

Re: little late but - how was everyone's Mothers Day?

  • I slept in after the morning feeding and came downstairs to homemade waffles and a stack of presents! J (with help from dad) got me the Vera Bradley bracelet I wanted (DH said he picked out the pattern he thought a little boy would pick, so sweet!) and DH got me yoga pants and a hoodie. I also got really nice cards - one from DH and one from LO (via DH). My DH writes the best cards ever, so I always love reading them.

My parents came over and brought lunch and we ate outside. We wanted to go to Brookside Gardens in the afternoon, but I think all of Montgomery County had the same idea and we couldn't find parking.

It was a really nice day and DH made it very special!

  • T&C, sorry that the first part of your day was sad, but kudos to your H for making the rest of it great!

**I'm editing my response because when I reread it, I totally sounded like a whiny, little b*tch.

And with our 5 year anniversary being tomorrow, I need to be more positive :-)

So, with that said Mother's Day was fine. Not the best day of my life, but I'm stilled blessed a millions times over.

...other than get up with Warner and go with is to brunch he didn't really exert much effort to make mother's day very special. he sent me flowers "from Warner" on Friday, which was really nice but he didn't even get me a card :( (sorry for whining but I was just kind of hurt)

I reminded DH last week that the card he bought for DD to sign for Mother's Day 2010 (but never followed through with) was still in the folder-organizer-whatever thingy in our kitchen...so he didn't even have to buy me a new one.  I have left it in the "to do" section for a year out of principle.  So...I feel your pain.  My DH has never made a big deal out of birthdays, holidays, anniversaries, etc. - which is fine by me, because it means no stress out of finding the perfect gift or making the perfect plans.  But apparently I feel like Mother's Day is different, because for the foreseeable future, he's in charge of "making it happen" on behalf of our kids...it's not just between the two of us.  In 2007 when I was a month away from having DD, I was disappointed that he didn't acknowledge Mother's Day with at least a card.  He was confused: "But you aren't a mother yet!"  Not the thing to say to the 8-months pregnant, hormonal, and suffering-in-the-Florida-heat lady!

My weekend was pretty good.  DD gave me a paper mache bowl she'd made and painted at preschool and filled with Hersey hugs and kisses...it was really sweet.  My own mom was visiting, so we had a picnic at Great Falls on Saturday and DH and I went out to dinner (a belated anniversary celebration, as well as for Mother's Day and Military Spouse Appreciation Day).  BTW, we tried the new Seasons 52 in Bethesda and really liked it.  On Sunday, DH made a pancakes, bacon, and scrambled eggs breakfast for us and later served a dude-style dinner of burgers, hot dogs, and potato salad.  I was just glad to not be in charge of any meals for the day!  And he got me a gift card to the new spa around the corner for a manicure - he said he would've gotten it for a pedicure but he'd read those were off-limits for pregnant ladies.  So I know he put thought into the gift.  And he redeemed himself by having DD make me a card that's better than anything that comes from Hallmark.

  • nothing special, just a regular Sunday, unfortunately. I did not get to STTN, sleep in or nap, I did not get any time alone. We still grocery-shopped, I still did laundry and made DD's meals for the week, and all the other chores. I told DH I'm re-doing MD in a few weeks when DS is STTN and going away for a night for some peace and quiet and ALONE time.

I did get a card and flowers and I loved the card DD made at DC for me and she kept saying "Happy Mother's Day" which is so cute.

  • Mine was wonderful!  DS was dedicated at our church and he wore a little smocked shorts outfit that his maternal grandmother made for DH when he was a baby.  They were totally ecstatic when they saw it at church (and I got extra brownie points from the in-laws)

Saturday night, DH had left a pillow on our bed he actually bought before we got married that has a little saying on it about mothers' hearts.  I was oohing and ahhing over it, never noticing the jewelry box underneath!  Inside was a ring I told him about 6 months ago!  I loved it and had kind of given up on it because I decided I didn't need it - plus we usually do not do gifts or surprises.  It's white gold, with an oblong black onyx (alternate birth stone for July when DS was born) and with a marquis shaped white gold center.  Very art deco and I was so surprised.  I felt very spoiled!!!

I'm glad you at least got something happy on your weekend!

Mine was good! I got to sleep in and take a nap. DH made me breakfast (and by made, I mean went through the drive through at McDonalds) He got me a card, and a card from H, and got me a big magnet I can put on the fridge. I cried reading all of them. :)  It has one of the first pics of me holding H and a nice note at the bottom. I bought myself a necklace off Etsy that I've been eyeballing... DH told me to buy it since he a) didn't remember I'd even mentioned it and b) wouldn't have been able to figure out what I wanted anyway. Confused Oh well, his intentions were good, lol. We spent the evening with my family having dinner.

  • t&c - I'm glad you got a nice, relaxing end to what I'm sure was a rough weekend.

I got what I really wanted (beach! No cooking! Wheee!) the weekend before last, so Mother's Day was kind of a bonus. M&FIL watched C overnight on Saturday so that we could go to a party (yay! And DH was the dd). Neither of us really got to sleep in on Sunday because these days the dogs get up before C (annoying!) but we did have the luxury of eating DH's delicious scrambled eggs on the couch while watching tv.

We took M&FIL out for lunch at a great little Mexican restaurant and headed up to a winery afterwards. It was nice. I still wish DH had gotten some kind of mother's jewelry. I'm past hinting and have started emailing him links. I could buy it myself, but that seems sad.

  • My day was good! I took M swimming in the morning (swimming = splashing around with other babies in a pool), which was a lot of fun. We went home and DH made a great breakfast of pancakes, bacon, and eggs. We relaxed during the afternoon and then went out for Thai food with some family members for dinner. All in all, it was a nice day. Oh, and M also "made" me a card (with lots of help with DH). It was sweet.

  • Sunday we didn't really celebrate.  My parents and in-laws were in town for DS's baptism (which was on Sunday) so I made breakfast for everyone, prepared for a 30+ person party (with help from my folks) and enjoyed a crazy Sunday.  I was a little disappointed that DH didn't get me a card or help DD make one - especially since I had bought flowers for my mom and his as well as had DD make cards for both.  Fast forward to Tuesday night, DH gave me an e-reader and a lovely card.  His gift had been taken longer to ship than he anticipated and wanted to do everything all at once.  Very sweet.
  • Mine was pretty good. DH got up with DD in the morning and told me I could stay in bed but I was already awake so I pretty much got up. All I wanted for breakfast was a Starbucks Frap and a scone. I could've sent DH out to get it but I preferred to get out of the house and get it myself so I did that. Then we hung out and had breakfast together. DH gave me a nice card. In the late morning, we went for a long walk which is one of my favorite things to do and took DD to the park to play. It was a beautiful day and it was really nice to spend time together as a family. In the afternoon, DD took her nap and I played on the computer and rested. Then in the evening we went to DH's parent's house for dinner. Oh, and I wanted DH to take some photos of me and DD which he did. So, overall, it was a really good day.

What I do is save a few items I've picked out on my own into my Favorites, then remind DH of my Etsy login and tell him to pick.  That way I'm sure to get something I like (because jewelry selections he makes for me on his own are either totally awesome or totally head-scratching), but there's still an element of surprise.  Win-win!

  • I got to sleep in, got two really cute cards (one from DH and one for DD) plus a mani/pedi giftcard. We get bombarded in a 6 week period with DH's birthday, Mother's Day, my birthday, Father's Day and our anniversary so we just do gifts for our birthdays so I was surprised with the GC.

Then, we all went to the Sheep and Wool Festival and met up with my mom and sister. DD had a great time and it was such great weather!
