S/O Convertable seats

Is it weird that we still don't have a convertible seat for DD?  She is *tiny* for her age- nowhere close to 30" tall and probably is somewhere between 15-15.5#, so the infant seat still has plenty of room according to the specs (Keyfit 30.)  I love that when we get home and she's asleep I can just keep her in it for naps (like she's doing right now) which obviously won't happen with a convertible, so I'm happy to keep with it for a while, but it seems like most people move up from the infant seat before this age, and, I assume, those sizes.  Will she be comfier in a larger seat despite this one still working?

...Speak of the devil, she's up. :p

  • My DD is the same weight but taller. I honestly just transfer her from the convertible seat to the ergo while sleeping (and vise versa). My older 2 were all 18+ lbs at 3 months so we were in the convertible with them by 4 months. :/
    Mama to Z - 5.5 years, G - 3.5 years, & M - 1.5 years.
  • We didnt switch either kid until they were closer to one.... E has been in O's old seat for a month now and there have been many times where I wish she was in the infant seat. She mostly wakes up when we get places now and O needed a new seat, so that was the biggest thing for us. I say stay with it if you can.

  • I love the convenience of the infant carrier and being able to quickly get him in and out of the car! Jake is currently 27in and 18lbs so we're getting close to the height limit on the Key Fit. I just ordered a convertible last week but I'm definitely keeping him in the carrier until he reachs the limit!

  • M was in his infant seat until 13-14 months, W was an inch from the height limit at his 9 mo appt (30"), so we switched then. We also had bought a new seat for M so it was good timing to move them both.

Consider yourself a lucky duck! My BFF kept her little girl in her infant seat until a little over a year. My super chunk grew out of his infant seat and had to be in a convertible at 4 months. (That and it was recalled). If she still fits the specs, I say don't worry about it!

  • Cambryn is a peanut too and she was in her infant seat until after her first birthday. She could have stayed longer, but we were tired of lugging the seat up and down the stairs at daycare....
  • If it ain't broke don't fix it.

  • We kept C in his infant seat for a long time too.  10 months I think?  It was the only seat that fit in the back of my teeny Toyota.  (We had to get rid of it after that.  I miss that car. *sob*).
  • Holden was in his til he was 1, so I definitely dont think its strange!

  • Not strange at all. We're probably weirder -- Collin moved into his convertible at four months. He was not feeling the infant seat AT ALL. Ever since then, it's been peaceful as can be.

  • I would stay with it as long as possible, seriously taking a sleeping kiddo out of the convertible and trying to keep them asleep is next to impossible. We had the Keyfit 30 also and I kept N in it as long as I could (just switched a few weeks ago). He is now up to 29.5" and 25lbs so he was staring to look like a sausage crammed in there and I felt bad. Also, my arms were lacking the muscle strength to lug him too far in that thing. He really likes the convertible seat but it does make it a lot harder on me. If she is still comfortable enjoy it!
  • Right on, I'm glad to keep on with it for a while, then.  She's an angel in it and naps so well that I'd love to keep that going as long as I can.  Plus I don't have to shell out money for a new seat anytime soon!

  • Ella was in her infant carrier until she was 16 months.

  • Madelyn was in hers until 14 months.
  • E still has a good 4 inches or so until she's at the height limit of her infant seat (weight maxes out at 35#), so we're sticking with it for as long as we can.  However, this is the time of year when carseat prices start dropping, so we may buy a convertible in the next few weeks.  My H will carry her around in the seat still, but I just leave it in the car and pull her in/out and take her in the stroller or a carrier.

  • Not weird at all - we only moved last month because we had to, K was within an inch of the height limit.  DH really really misses the long nap she used to take when he got home from work and he could just carry the carseat around the house.
