People were pretty negative, but I did my research and was confident in my choice and didn't let others discourage me. If you know a home birth is right for you then it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. The natural birth board is a great board for prep and support for a home birth.

I get mixed reactions from people. A lot of people were excited to hear about it. Some were concerned about safety so often I went over how if you have a complication free pregnancy home birth is just as safe as hospital birth. I also would discuss how my midwives were very proactive watching for potential problems and tranferring me to a hospital if there were signs of problems.
I did have complications with myself and was transferred to a hospital after the birth. If I was at the hospital delievery everything would have been the same except I wouldn't have gotten the super cool ambulance ride!
I only ran into a couple people who really challenged my decision. I tried to stay calm and I would point out all the problems that can arise from a hospital birth. In the end if the conversation wasn't going well I would just end it. Nothing anyone could say would change my decision because I had done my research and was confident in my decision.
We didn't get much negativity, but did get the occasional "gasp!". For the most part, people that weren't familiar with homebirth trusted that we were making an informed decision. If I were to have gotten negativity (well some said they were worried for me), I would brush it off as ignorance. Also, your birth choice is nobody else's business. It was for sure the single most empowering experience of my life.
