Two Under 2

Did this happen to you? or is it happening?

I have a 7 mo DD and im 20 weeks pg w/ our second. Obviously she is too young to understand what's going on, but I still talk to her about the baby and we involve her with the u/s and such. As of late, she's been getting really clingy and angry when I pay attention to other kids. She also has started to cry hysterically anytime I talk about the baby to her ( I don't think she understands, but idk). I'm afraid of how she's going to handle the new baby, she'll be a year right around the birth so it could get better or worse.

My ? is, did any of you go through this with your kids? If so, at this young age or were they older?

  • I'm guessing it's a phase and I really doubt it has anything to do with you being pg. Separation anxiety normally starts at that age for some kids. I bet it will pass and may come again. Ds was a year when ds2 was born and he was totally fine for about 2 months. Then he seemed to have another round of it. I don't think it had to do with the new baby but was just a stage of development.

Well I did that a whole lot! But when I was pg with ds2, my friend asked if I thought ds1 could sense it. I really didn't think so. I said, babies aren't like dogs who smell cancer or something. What a weird thought.

  • I think DD can kind of tell something is going on. I used to breastfeed and she tried to mouth my nipple the other day. She was turning my nipple while completely engrossed in something else. I was thinking maybe she smells the "milk" she hits my tummy a lot and she also hugs and kisses my belly a lot. I have a lot of people tell me she's going to be jealous but I don't think that is true. She should be about 14 months when I have LO#2.

  • Yes, this happened to me.  Your kids are going to be about the same age difference as mine.  My DD1 started getting really clingy around 10-11 months (well, clingier than normal - she's always been a clingy one).  Part of me really doesn't believe that she could have known, but another part of me thinks she really did sense a change coming.  The first three-four weeks of DD2's life were hard on her, but now she absolutely adores her sister and it's great.  DD2 is now 7 months, and DD1 is 19.5 months.
Traveling the world with my girls - born 12 months and 18 days apart.

Uh oh, I may be in trouble then seeing as DD will be almost 11 months old when LO#2 is here.
