I live in Venice, which is in Sarasota County. Anything you would like to know about the beaches here, I'm your girl. They are wonderful. I would start with Casey Key. They have cute inns and there are two great beaches there, North Jetty beach and Nokomis beach. They have a playground too. In Venice, near Venice Beach, Rialto Apartments have fully furnished 2 bedroom apartments for vacation rental, for a weekend or weekly stay. Laundry service included. Siesta Key in Sarasota is fun, lots of condos to rent there. Also Manasota Key is divine to drive along, with great beaches like Blind Pass. Condos and motels are speckled more south, in Englewood. Let me know if you have any other questions.
I'm in Venice too and there are plenty of great places to stay down here. Besides the ones listed you could always look in Lido or Longboat key. I know a few people that have stayed at resorts in Lido with their children and had tons of fun. It's nice to stay closer to Sarasota b/c you'll be closer to activities for the family like Mote Aquarium, The Sarasota Fountain, G-Wiz musuem, and plenty of parks. Have fun!
