This is really gross, but take a enema, do what you have to, but try to clean out the pipes beforehand!! Seriously!!  Delivery is not pretty!!

That my daughter was breech!  LOL!  No seriously though this is a tough one as my delivery and recovery was fantastic.  I really have no complaints at all about labor and delivery.   I just listened to my Dr. and nurses and it went very smooth even after they told me it was a c-section.

Its going to sound totally stupid.. but I have two potentially silly questions.

    1) Would a cat really potentially snuggle up to a baby a suffocate it? I have two, and Jack tends to sleep at our feet at night (like a dog) and my mother warned me that he might jump up into the crib and snuggle up to the baby and by accident suffocate it.. not that I'd leave the cat free access to the kid, but still..  and to go with that, how do you start training cats early for the baby.. I know other people have had this same question, but I don't have any pets so I'm not one that can answer this.

    2) is a full size crib really necessary? I mean, I'm afraid of drop down cribs (from a babysitting experience when I was younger) and the idea of having a huge bulky crib kind of goes against my minimalist feelings..  I've been eying this mini crib (can convert into a toddler day bed, and twin bed) I was just wondering if there would be any reason why I'd *have* to have a full size. I don't believe you can even buy drop cribs anymore.  You do not need a full size crib.  I am looking into smaller cribs for this one because his/her room is on the smaller side so I want as much space as I can get.

    HTH!

Let the baby sleep in the nursery at the hospital at night so you can get a little bit of rest before you go home!!!!

I totally agree. I'd be mortified too. But I'll tell you, DH and I have a number of friends who are doctors. We had a whole (disgusting) conversation about this once. They told me that it is so commonplace to them, and they couldn't care less. I didn't believe that but they all were in agreement about it.

I still hope it doesn't happen.

    1) We had cats when ds was born and we kept them out of the room he was going to be in when I found out I was pregnant.  Then when he was home if he was in our room we would kick the cats out of the room.  We weren't going to take the chance of the cats getting too close.

    2) I'm pretty sure drop down cribs are no longer legal to sell, or it's getting that way.   We use a full size crib but it's up to you what you use.

DS was a month early and went into labor at work so I really wasn't prepared. It really wasn't that bad, they clean it up instantly and the nurse told me it happens all the time. The only person in the room was DH. The only thing on your mind is getting that baby out and you really think of nothing else!! But if I had to do it over I would rather not. So, now I know!!

That it feels like the baby is coming out of your a$$ when you're pushing.

I have a cat and he didn't go near my DD. Plus, she was not really out of my sight while she was sleeping and too young to cry about that. She slept in a bassinet.

IKEA has some great smaller cribs.

That being 41 one weeks pregnant is a walk in the park compared to life with a newborn.  Good news is...it gets much easier and the black hole of sleep deprivation doesn't last forever.

I was really nervous of this too but honestly I dont' know if I did or didn't when in labor.  All I really cared about was pushing little Finn out!  My epi had worn off and I was having all back labor.  My husband, nurse or doctor never said a word about it so I'm not sure!  I bet they know that women will be embaressed about it so they just dont' talk about it, they just clean it up real fast.

I wouldn't have known either except DH said something!!

  • Don't get the epidural too early. Smile

    1) Cats have been caught trying to "cuddle" with the baby. Cats like to be where people are. They dont know the difference in what part of the baby they are snuggled up to.

    1) MH and I decided to just get a regular crib. (The drop side cribs are now illegal to sell) We have the idea that when the baby is ready for a toddler bed we will want to get a "cool" cute little bed. Something special.

I went to a designer to ask what they suggest and  she said that most people get the convertable crib and actually use them in the different ways it is supose to be used, but they are not necessary.

I would suggest getting a co-sleeper. Especially if you are going to bf. The baby is right there with you without being IN the bed with you. Lol if that makes sense.

  • Go for the smaller crib, it sounds like it will be just fine in the end.  As far as delivery goes, it's a natural process, you'll know what to do when it's happening, just make sure that you've got all the support you need!  And that your Dr. is closeby, Natalie came out so fast that they told me to stop pushing and even though I stopped she was still making her way out, he barely made it back in time.

Agree 100% ; the birth part is EASY and I would give birth 100X's if it would let me skip the first 4 weeks. I wish someone would have told me for real about how hard it is. Everyone always just joked like "you'll never sleep again" I don't think I got it until DD was born.

  • My little advice:

When people want to come over to see the new baby and ask if they can bring something or help while they are there, SAY YES.  When you finally get that baby to sleep its like the biggest decision if you should, Sleep, Eat, or Shower. Take any help you can when its offered, people want to help, let them!

  • Instead of quoting, I'll just cover it here.

I have no idea whether I pooped on the table or not.  I could have cared less at that point.  So if you are scared of doing that, just make your husband swear that he will never tell you whether you did or not.  If you don't know about it, you can't be embarrased about it!

I don't have cats, so I can't really answer that one from experience, but my sister has cats and none of her kids have ever had them jump up and suffocate them.

I full size crib isn't necessary, but it is nice.  We actually have a drop-side (not illegal in Canada) and I love it.  I'm short and getting my daughter in and out (especially once I'm showing and huge) would be next to impossible it we didn't have the drop.  Our crib can convert to a day bed and then a double, but we probably won't ever use that feature because we'll just keep using it for babies until we are finished having babies!

I witnessed my bff's entire L&D and you will poop, however the nurses will not even tell you unless you ask.  It is not a big deal, they see that and I am sure many other more disgusting things all the time.  According to my bff when you are in the moment you do not care about anything but pushing that baby out!

  • Something I wished somone would have told me:

    USE PALMERS!!!

Use it every time you shower and before you go to bed.

I wished I had with my first! I had stretch marks with my first. I used Palmers with my 2nd and 3rd and didn't get any additional stretch marks.

I would hightly recommend getting the tummy butter and the oil!!!

    HTH!
