Ok, so I'm 5 weeks PP. My 6 week appointment is Tuesday, so I'll definitely be talking to my MW about this then, but... I was hoping to get your opinions/experiences beforehand to see if I should call them tomorrow about it. I had an episiotomy/2nd degree tear. I haven't really had any problems so far with anything down there. I haven't checked my stitches or even ventured to look down there (no desire to), but I've been pretty much pain free for about 2 1/2 weeks and I've been taking it easy. I haven't really lifted anything heavier than LO in her carseat. I've started going for walks around the neighborhood since it's been warm, but nothing strenuous or anything. And the bleeding had really tapered off to just a brownish discharge. For the past few days, however, I've been having an occasional throbbing (best way to describe it, but not quite accurate) pain down there when I'm standing. Not necessarily near my stitches or anything, just an all over ache feeling (I use to have it very rarely during my period) and once or twice a sharp fleeting pain INSIDE my vagina. Bleeding has also picked up slightly ( have to wear a pad again instead of just a liner) and is back to red. And Just now when I went to the bathroom and wiped there was what appeared to be a small brown clot. when I looked at it closer though it was a brown stringy, rubbery membrane type thing? I don't know how else to describe it. Has anyone else had this? Is it normal? Or do you think I should call my about it?

Re: Major TMI - vaginal pain/bleeding?
My bleeding tapered off and came back pretty bright red a few times (unfortunately). I had pains similar to what you are describing, but mostly around 2-3 weeks. I noticed that the pain was worse after activity (even light activity) - that's when I'd started walking (for exercise) and moving around significantly. I wondered if it was everything kind of moving back into place and if that was stimulated by the exercise?
I would never say not to call your dr/mw... you should always listen to your instincts, but I'm a nurse (and a bad patient, lol) so I like to wait and see - either it will get worse or it will go away is the theory I use for myself (but don't recommend it). I would take it easy if I were you (and that's what I did when I had those pains), drink plenty of fluids, get a little extra sleep if you can, watch out for a fever or anything else that could be the sign of an infection causing the pain. Certainly call before the end of the week if the pain is constant or if the little voice in your head says it wants to make sure everything is okay
