We just moved into a townhouse and since we're the end unit we only share one wall that isn't a garage with our neighbors. Unfortunately that wall includes LO's nursery. I worry a lot about the baby crying and disturbing the neighbors. DH says I'm borrowing trouble and that sometimes babies just cry.
Thoughts?
Re: townhouse/apartment dwellers and others with shared walls
Do you hear your neighbors a lot? If you have a decent firewall between the houses (which you should), then it shouldn't be a big deal.
I can sometimes hear our neighbors dog barking in the house, but that's about it. It isn't loud enough to be annoying.
I agree with your DH. All will be fine!
We have a town home as well, but I'm not too worried. We have people on either side of us, one is a single lady, and the other side is a couple with two kids. We never hear them at all. In fact, it was a good couple months before we even knew they HAD kids over there and we only found out because the kids were outside. They aren't crying infants by any means, but I'm sure they yell and cry sometimes
Also, we own our town home, and so does everyone else. I figure that our neighbors knew there was a possibility of babies being next door at some point when they bought it. It just goes with the territory of sharing walls, I wouldn't worry about it
I wouldn't worry too much about it. Shared walls mean shared noise- it happens. It isn't like you are going to do a tap dance routine on their ceilings.
Unless (or until) you start doing hard-core CIO, it isn't likely that they would hear the baby that much- and if you are friendly with them, you could always give them a head's up beforehand.
I hate my neighbour i plan on taking LO into the kitchen everytime he crys just to annoy her...
This exactly.
When DS was born we were on the 2nd floor of an apartment with cheap walls/floors. I heard every step from upstairs and the downstairs neighbors heard it all from my apartment. The downstairs neighbors had kids that I heard all the time and both of them blasted their TV and radio. Honestly, with as much noise as I put up with from every which way, I didn't care if DS's cries did anything.
The apartment complex I live in now is much quieter and much more sound proof, so I'm not worried.
