We have a semi-local dairy around here that does milk and ice cream and we've purchased their milk in the past. It is hormone free, cows are pastured in summer and kept indoors in winter (but not packed in or anything horrible that I can tell). Now, Evelyn is drinking some milk now just to get her used to it (maybe 1 oz every few days). Anyway, I was at a store that sells this local milk today and got a gallon of 1% and then I hesitated on getting her a 1/2 gallon of whole. I am pretty strict about organic dairy usually, and have been especially strict for her. I do give this milk to Bruce and never really thought twice about it but now I am with Evelyn; the whole early puberty thing in girls worries me way more than in boys, not sure if that is warranted but anyway it does.
What do other organic dairy families think of this? Is hormone free enough? I like that this is local lot and I always was pleased it was hormone free when it was just DH/DS and I drinking it. And a bonus, its a LOT cheaper than any other milk we could buy around here. Even regular milk in the store would be more expensive.
Re: Milk and girls, a wwyd ?
This.
Hormone free is the biggest thing for me. Since rBST wasn't even introduced until what 1994? I feel like we still don't know the full effects it could have.
We do organic milk and as much other organic dairy as I can find/afford. Organic string cheese, but hormone free yogurt- because she doesn't like the organic whole milk yogurt, etc.
This!
i agree with calling and asking about their policies to ease your mind.
what's the name of the dairy?? is it the crescent moon or crescent farms or whatever it is that does delivery from the south shore?
