I didn't have it but I thought from my first PG if you test positive they give you antibiotics. I can't remember if it's before or during labor. They didn't tell you this when they told you the results? I would call the doctors office.
I am negative, but from my understanding, the only thing you need to do is get to the hospital early. They need to put you on antibiotics 4 hours before birth.
Dianah- I tested positive this PG (baby is almost 3 weeks old can't update siggy) You need to start antibiotics 4 hours prior to giving birth so you can get two doses. My labor went so fast I only got one dose. They had to do a CBC on little one once she was born to make sure she was alright and we had to stay one extra night in the hospital to get results back. She is fine and has had no problems. GL, JM
You know, I think I was positive for this with my second daughter. As I recall they just ran an IV when I went into labor. It wasn't a big to-do. Hopefully it won't be too much to deal with!

I was just tested for it yesterday at my first appointment. My OB wanted me to get tested early because I want to have a CVS. She said it was important to know about the GBS before doing that. She also said if it was positive, that it was no big deal and they'd just put me on a course of antibiotics. She said roughly 20% of the population tests positive.
I had it last time... all it means is that as soon as you're hooked up to an IV.. they start giving you antibiotics during labor. No biggie.. My daughter got antibiotics, too.. precautionary, not sure if it was b/c of GBS or not. Can't remember.. but I do remember she had them for a day or two. Just be sure to remember to tell them this when you're in labor.. don't assume they'll know.

Re: Group B Strep
I am also negative, so we didn't go into detail about treatment.
I know you have to have a round of antibiotics, I just don't know how/when. Definitely bring it up with the doc.
