I can say with utmost certainty we will never have a minivan. We have two SUV's (both are relatively fuel-efficient) and just recently sold our 4door sedan. I think I'll probably always have an SUV or crossover though.
I will never ever drive a mini-van, that I can be sure of. I really don't like SUV's. We've rented them for road trips and I just can't stand them. I'm much too short and I hate "climbing into" a vehicle. We rented a jeep patriot (a smaller SUV) a few weeks ago, and my H was trying to sell me on buying one. No freaking way - I showed him how difficult it would be for me to put a baby into and out of the back seat for me. Car it is!

I'm a minivan hater. DH is convinced that it's the best option for us. He wants us to be able to drive more than just us and the kids. He is going to get the fully loaded version for me at least. I want an suv too. He complains about getting in and out of the thrid row. Marriage is comprimise. He is going to sell the new truck he bought before DS is born for the van.
I would *like* for it to be an SUV, but being more practical, I know we will eventually get a minivan when LO #2 comes along. Space-wise they tend to be more versatile, and the gas mileage is generally better. They may not look as cool, but I see why moms love them. DH has also come to terms with our eventual minivan usage. lol.

I currently drive a very small car and will continue to do so for at least a few moths after baby boy comes. However, we are saving up to buy a used Mazda CX-9 which is a crossover with third row seating, but still low enough to the ground for me to actually be comfortable getting in and out at 4'9".
We will always have at least 1 sedan. But, our next choice is going to be mini-van. We'd need one because it has a lower deck (so our dogs can get in) plus room for 2 car seats.

SS. A hatchback. It's bigger than a 4-door car, but smaller than most SUVs. We are looking at the Impreza hatchback right now -- I love it! -- but we aren't 100% sold just yet (poor gas mileage).
I just don't like big cars. A hatchback gives us the practicality we need and the small car handling we love.
I voted SUV even though I drive a mini-van, because I WANT an SUV, we just can't afford one right now. I love my mini-van though. Once you get used to one you would never be able to go back to a sedan, they're mega roomy!
j/k. I'm not opposed to a minivan. My inlaws have a fully loaded Town and Country and I LOVE traveling anywhere with them. So comfy! And I love the little TVs in the seats. And that the seats all fold down into the floor.
I don't really care what people say about me if I have to drive around in a minivan someday. Unless I have to wear a size in the double digits. If I'm fat and have to drive a minivan...I will be very upset with myself.

I LOVE hatchbacks -- that's why my dream car is a station wagon. I drive a Honda Fit now -- 4-door with a hatchback. We can fit SO much in it!

#3 is on the way and we recently purchased a new SUV - 2011 Honda Pilot. I had a Ford Escape but couldn't fit 3 across. The gas is killing me, but I like having a little extra cargo space. I sat in a minivan at the dealership (Honda Odyssey) but couldn't bring myself to take it for a test drive. It had a lot of interesting features, but we opted for the SUV.

I have a four-door sedan and the trunk is like a hatchback. I can get things in and out of the trunk easily because it's not high and it's very deep, and unlike a regular sedan trunk, I can just pull something like a stroller out instead of having to lift it as well. An SUV is too high for me and honestly doesn't really suit my personality. If I had 3 kids, it might have to move to an even bigger sedan or figure out what in the other markets would work best for me (hint: not a minivan).

We have a Honda Fit, too. It's a great little car!

Once I go back to work in a year and we don't have to watch finances so carefully, I want to buy a larger car and I love the Fit. I thought I'd love the Honda Crossover (I'm a big hatchback fan too) but not so much since I've seen it in person. Right now I have a 10 year-old 2 door that I looooove and want to keep as a weekend car but getting even one car seat in there is an adventure.
DH has a four door Corolla (also about 10 years old) and I would be tempted to steal is as the kid toter, but it gets better gas mileage than my car and he puts 70 miles a day on his car just driving to work and back.

I have one of these too. We are keeping it. I love my car, but it's too small for road trips with babies.

Mine is actually really large, the Audi A7. It's very long, but the backseat is only designed for 2 carseats.

I have a mazda 3 sport wagon. Def smaller than yours. It can only do two car seats but that is all we will need.

My DH has an Impreza WRX 265 hatchback and I have a Toyota Matrix. We love both of our vehicles but I will likely eventually get an SUV because we want a small camping trailer and can't tow much of anything with either of our vehicles. I have to admit that my Matrix will be awesome for at least our first child - there's tons of room! DH's car is more for fun - it's not great on gas but boy is it fast!

I chose SUV because right now I drive a Pilot. However, I really don't care. i am not that into cars. It's paid off, and that is the most important thing.
Once that dies I'd like to get a station wagon/SUV hybrid thingie, I guess. But I really don't care. I hate car payments so we'll see what fits our budget when the time comes.

I'm thinking about an RV. Total Duggar style.
