**Edwina**

On what cycle day did you have your co-culture taken?

I called my nurse last Thursday to get this scheduled and she didn't call back until today....and of course I missed her call.  Probably will take another week to hear back from her.

Good luck with this cycle!  I'll be watching closely for updates.

Re: **Edwina**

  • It needs to be between 5 and 11 (um, maybe 12?) days after your LH surge. They do this massive 80cc blood draw the day before as well. Your lining needs to be at least 6.

They do them at crmi on Tuesday and Thursdays only. Since my LP is a bit short at 11 days, I didn't want it to be too long past surge or go on progesterone to keep AF away since I was also doing EP. Surged Ap 25 cd 20, biopsy May 3 cd28. It was totally easy and much better than the biopsy my GYN took for other reasons. I took 600 mg Advil an hour before.

    Good luck to you too!!

  • I just heard back from the nurse and she said that they take it around day 18.  She also informed me that they monitor the cycle closely that month and will have me come in on at the beginning of the cycle to see if everything is optimal (whatever that means) and then they will also have me on meds to eliminate the potential for yeast.  I could just scream.  I am 3 dpo now and I was hoping to start my ivf cycle with my next AF.

Did you have to take any meds prior to co-culture?  Seems to me they could do a yeast culture 10 seconds before they do the co-culture.  Ugh!

  • No meds. I had a Lap the month before, and if the timing was right (it wasn't) I would have done the CC then. I was monitored a lot, surged late (of course) and if the timing of the biopsy wasn't good (it was) they would have put me on progesterone to get me through the procedure. I started the estrogen priming the day of the biopsy, but that was independent.

I don't understand why they can't put you on anti yeasties right now. They did no yeast culture on me at all.

The blood was for the plasma, not for any testing.

I hope they find a way to get you in this cycle. Are you doing the same protocol as before or a new one? You were on A/ACP before if I recall correctly?

  • It's a different protocol and a different clinic.  If I stayed with SIRM they were going to do a basic Antagonist this go around.  I did do the A/ACP last time and my RE thought the Lupron oversuppressed me.

During my break I received a letter from Abington offering a discounted IVF since I failed out of one of their studies last year.  The offer is almost to good to pass up.  Their stats are as good as SIRM's in my age group and the RE that I chose did his fellowship at Cornell and was apparently very involved in their co-culture program.  The office is slightly closer and the protocol was something different to try.  It's Letrozole/Antagonist.

Now I don't know what to do.  If I cycle with SIRM I can get started with my next period.  When I spoke to the RE at Abington, he said we could get started right away there too, but now the nurses are giving me a different story. Even if I don't do co-culture, they are saying they want a mock transfer, but only after I asked them about it.  Do these Dr's think we have tons of time on our hands??  So either way, this is getting pushed back another month if I go with Abington.

Another thing they are asking for is a Chromosone Analysis.  I can understand if we were unexplained, but we already know that we are old, more proned to Chromosonal issues and neither one of us have a family history of Chromonsonal abnormalities.  It just seems that after we add up all these additional tests we are back at the same dollar amount as cycling at SIRM.

Just got a call from another Abington nurse, with a different story.  Looks like we don't need a mock transfer and if I don't elect to do co-culture we can start once AF gets here.   Also, this nurse said that if I wanted to do co-culture this cycle we could and she didn't say anything about the yeast meds.   How as a patient am I to feel comfortable with my nurses giving me different information?  Apparently they don't assign you a nurse.  Seems odd.

I wish you were further along, so I could ask you if the co-culture is worth it.  What was life like before IF?  I must of had a ton of time on my hands.

What protocol are you on this time?
