Pregnant after IF

How do you feel about concerts?

We love going to concerts- any and all! We are really into music and I guess I never asked my doctor but I guess I just assumed it's ok to do. We have one Friday we just got tickets to. It's an outdoor conert and I plan to plop my butt in the grass and enjoy.

What do you guys think?

Re: How do you feel about concerts?

  • I would think it would be totally fine.  Just stay hydrated and away from the wacky tabacky.

I don't do many concerts anymore.  I have definitely mellowed out as I have gotten older.  I did go to Jack Johnson last year at an outdoor venue.  But he is pretty mellow too.

  • I've been to several and besides the smoke (wackie and other) it's been great. We have 2 music festivals next weekend we are going to and I plan on having a blast!

    Enjoy yourself!

  • Outdoor I would go to without hesitation, indoor I may think twice about since babies are very susceptible to loud noises and indoor concerts are going to be much louder than outdoor.  I can't remember if babies can hear yet at 18 weeks though.  If they couldn't hear yet then I wouldn't worry about an indoor concert either.

Just as an example of what I assume is sound sensitivity I was lounging in my parents spa (not heated they keep it at pool temp in the summer) and I turned on the jets and Max flipped out (not in a good way, I can tell by now) and as soon as I turned the jets off he calmed right down.

  • I think it's fine, especially an outdoor one.  I would bring a blanket in case you need something to roll up behind you if you get uncomfortable.  And just make sure to stay plenty hydrated!  And like the others said, stay away from any smokers.  I'm jealous, we used to go to concerts all the time when we lived up north but there aren't any good concerts that come to B'ham.  We've gone into Atlanta a few times, but that's a pain/expensive to do too often.  Who are you going to see?

  • We have tickets to 5 concerts this summer that were bought before we got our BFP. It's outdoors but our tickets are in the pavillion area which has seats. I asked my OB at my last appt if it was ok to still go and he said yes with no hesitation.

  • I went to a few - I was probably 28 and 32 weeks - I just drank a lot of water and would sit down occasionally.

I drank a lot of water and had a really good time!

I went to one a few weeks ago and it was also outdoor.  I had a hard time staying away from the smokers (regual and wacky, LOL).  I ended up leaving 1/2 way through b/c it was so bad.  However, it was a Stone Temple Pilots concert and I guess that audience is kinda wild.  I think it would be fine if you were going to see someone where you'd be less surrounded by smoke.

  • I am sure it will be fine. I went to one at around 7 weeks pregnant and we have another one in early october we're going to. I just make sure I have water with me at all times so I can stay hydrated and try to sit where I can get out for frequent bathroom trips.

That is crazy about Max reacting to the jets.  I got in my jetted tub a couple of weeks ago.  I ran the jets for about 10 minutes and my baby stayed really calm.  Maybe the jets in the tub aren't as loud?

  • Glad you guys don't think I'm a bad mom LOL!

We went to see Aaron Lewis which was accustic and pretty mellow. The last night me and my sister took my mom to see Bob Seger (She loves Bob and would always tell us growing up he was going to be our new stepdad some day). I did pretty good but started feeling bad this morning because I guess I never thought it would be bad that I went until I got a few looks while we were there- which I could care less.

This Friday is an outdoor with about 10 different bands playing- All alternative (Seether, 10 years, Stone Sour, Hollywood Undead and of course I forgot the rest)  so there will be all sorts of tabacky Wink  Like I said we listent to any and ALL music!

Thanks a bunch you guys make me feel better!

The jets in the spa are really really loud, maybe because there are so many, I don't know.  The funny thing was I had literally just finished reading an article in one of my pregnancy magazines about being aware of the noises you are subjecting baby too because of sound sensitivity.  I then of course felt bad and kept apologizing to my belly ;-P.

  • We bought tickets to an outdoor concert in June that I was planning on going to, this was before I was put on bed rest, so no more concerts for me Sad I would go and enjoy!

FWIW my mom went to a concert when she was 38 weeks pregnant with my brother. My brother has been very into music since he was a little guy and now works in the industry. We all joke that it's b/c she took him to that concert in-utero!

I feel so trashy writing this, but yes, I did go to a concert when I was about 34-ish weeks pregnant and got lots of stares like I was doing something wrong. It was an outdoor concert, but we still had seats close to the stage instead of doing the grass thing. I was worried so I brought my big puffy down-filled winter jacket (in September! lol) to fold up across my belly if I thought it was getting too loud.

DH got me the tickets for my birthday, so I felt really bad saying no, and they're my favourite band so I wanted to go. The music was LOUD and I could feel every single vibration inside my body. DD was jumping around the whole time. If it had been something more mellow, I don't think I would have cared so much (it was Tool, hence feeling the trashiness factor....I don't think I'll go to a Tool concert 8 months pregnant again.....). My DD is totally fine....and so is her hearing.
