sleeping on my sides...

is not going to work - apparently its not anything that a body pillow will help...its the hips that are touching the bed that are getting extremely sore...so i flip and after an hour or so that hip is bothering me so about every, i'm awake switching to a different side = sucky nights...anyone have any suggestions?

  • I slept on my stomach until a few weeks ago, and the side sleeping sucks for me too.  I've been laying on my stomach but pulling one leg up kind of, to take the pressure off my belly. Hard to describe I guess. I put 2 pillows for my head, then 1 pillow just below those. Its a cluster fvck, but it seems to be working.

I also find it comfy sleeping half on my side half on my belly so that not all the pressure is placed on your hip?.. Could you try that at least till third tri (Then sadly, youll never be comfy..ever)

Only thing I have..Or you could try the back and just have a ton of pillows to keep you somewhat propped..so youre not flat..

  • I find that if I lay in the jack knife position it relieves some of that pressure on my hips. Have you tried that? I struggle with the same as you, but mine actually go numb and then it takes forever for it to go away. Ugh. Guess it's just preparing us for no sleep when baby comes huh?

I do this too and it's pretty comfortable.  I've always been a side-sleeper, but lately my hips get all tingly so I roll over a little more.

  • i was thinking about putting pillows under my hip...i do the half on my hip/half on my belly thing - usually where i end up but then it seems after a little while that gets me too - i'll go out and buy more pillows and try to adjust myself - thanks ladies...my mother said at some point the recliner will be my best friend

  • I know just how you feel, I toss and turn all night long. I use a pillow in front of me so that I'm half on my belly or I put one behind my back so I'm half on my back. That seems to help take some of the pressure off, but I still have nights where I just can't get comfy at all. Hopefully you can find something that works for you!

Right there with ya, every 1/2 hour I am tossing over to the other side, excruitiating at times, I lay on back for a few minutes with one leg in a bent position, for some reason it relieves the pain for a few minutes.  16 weeks to go!
  • It took me a while to get used to it...I've been working on it for a couple weeks now.  I was super sore (neck, back, hips) and then I noticed that over time, it got better.  And, my snoogle is my new boyfriend.  One thought though - do you have a good mattress?  Maybe you could look at a nice pillow-top mattress pad to see if that gives you any additional support on your hips.  Hope you get some relief soon!

I hear you!  It doesn't happen for me every night, but when it does it's so painful.  I've been sleeping with a pillow in between my knees and that's helped some.  I find myself sleeping on my back a lot which freaks me out...it's tough getting comfortable.  Sometimes I think it's our bodies prepping us for the little sleep we'll get one our babes arrive!

  • I've been using a snoogle type deal (except that its a full U shape which kind of traps me, but does make it easier to switch sides)----I basically sleep on my stomach with my left leg straight and my right leg/hip up flexed and up on the pillow. i also kind of roll the edge of the blanket and stuff it under my belly so that it is a gradual slope down from the pillow and gets some support for the right edge which is slightly tilted off the mattress due to the pillow.

yeah, i'm the best to share a bed with. i can't sleep on my side really either; it always makes me feel like i need to pee.

  • I am right there with you. And since this is pregnancy number three and I still haven't found a cure, I am not sure there is one.
  • we may really need a new mattress - i'm sure that would help also!
