Pregnant after 35

my poor seizure puppy

One of our dogs has seizures. I hate watching him go through them, especially because there is nothing I can do except hold him and let it pass. But being pregnant really gets me emotional when they happen. I sit with him crying the whole time.  It breaks my heart.  Even after it is over I still cry, he is kinda in an inbetween state, still shaky and not all together.  The first thing he tries to do is go find his "security toy" and carry it around with him for about half an hour.  Man, it tears me up.  I hope this reaction goes away once LO is here, and I return to normal.  I would get upset and concerned for him, of course, but the crying?! that needs to stop.

Re: my poor seizure puppy

  • It's your hormones... I keep finding myself crying for no real reason at all lately.

I was listening to a song on the way to the OB Monday in the car and started crying, and it wasn't even a sad song....

No idea why i was crying, I was just an emotional wreck. At least your poor puppy deserves your tears! Smile  Hell I started tearing up just reading about his seizure LOL

  • I'm sitting here crying just reading about it.  I can't imagine what I would be like if it was happening to my puppy.  I agree with McWhittaker, your puppy deserves your tears!
  • That's so sad.  Sorry your puppy is going through that.  I know for alot of people, their pets are their 1st babies so my heart goes out to you.
  • It may or not be hormones...  I would cry regardless I think.

Our family dog (he lives with my parents) had a seizure a couple of months ago while I was there. I believe it was his first we witnessed- I was so freaked out and scared I was running around looking for the phone screaming 'call 911!'.

I can't stand to take him to the vet for shots or anything b/c he hates it so. I hope I am able to be stronger about LO's appointments

  • awww!!!  Is there medication he can take at all?  My friend's pug has seizures (but they come in the form of chasing his tail until he hurts himself!!) but she put him on some sort of medication that controls it.

    I'm sorry!

the little guy breaks my heart.  He was getting them so infrequently that we opted not to use the meds. They seem to have more side effects then what we were comfortable with.  but now that he is getting older he is getting them more and more.  Almost once a week. It is tough this time of year on him.  The chemicals that people put on their yards seem to trigger him.  Plus, the flea and tick medicine sets him off.  Which we just did a few days ago.  It is funny, I have gotten so in tune with him, that I can usualy tell right before he is going to have one.  I don't know exactly what I notice about him, but I am always right.  Even knowing one is on the way, I still get so upset.

  • Awe so sorry. I agree with other posts....hormones make us so emotional! That whole crying over a commercial thing? Yep...that's me. It's so annoying at times! I'm with you....when am I going to return to normal-ville?!! HELP!

  • AWWWW =(  I hope that as the season passes, your puppy's seizures will become more infrequent.  Made me so sad to read about your puppy looking for a security toy afterwards =(
