On Sunday the Enquirer released the Baby Idol 2011 entrants. There are 480 of them. On the one hand, it's enormous fodder for ridiculous name choices but on the other hand, it's a great setting for the game of "How Many Different Ways Can You Spell (insert name here)"
But here's just a sample:
Kolin - is this a variation on Colin? Because frankly, my first pronunciation was like "colon"
Suri - we can thank Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes for this one
Greenley
Witten
Karringtyn - because the K and the Y make it more "girly"
Karsyn - oh, COME ON! That's just a ridiculous spelling of this
Merzen - ????????
Evynn - apparently the girl version of Evan.
I have to stop now. My forehead is bruised from all the banging against the desk.
Re: S/O of name choices that earn the side eye
I am doing schedules for the new students and have had the following:
Madisynn
Ellycia (Alicia)
Ellexis (Alexis)
Wow.
Oh geez.
I love these lists, but sometimes I wonder if people look at my name and curse my parents for trying to be youneek.

at least it's not Merkin
There is an actress/dancer with the first name Kherrington. She was in the remake of Fame and is on the trashy dance reality show that is on after Khloe and Lamar.
I feel so bad for all these children that their parents did this to them. I hope my children always love and enjoy their name. I see Audree and Aubree a lot so I hope she realizes that the Y is the more normal way to spell her name.
