Do you give one? If so, what makes a good gift? My nephews baptism is in a couple weeks and we were asked to be godparents, but I have no idea if you give gifts or what would make a good gift. My nephew is 6 months old if that helps. Thanks in advance.
Re: Baptism Gifts?
For DS's baptism we did get gifts, we got a hand crocheted quilt from my inlaws, we got a couple children's bibles, and a wall hanging Irish cross...we also received money which we put into a savings account for DS.
Hope that helps...
In our family it became tradition that God Parents would start a collection of Christmas Tree ornaments for their GS/DG. This is what my god mother did for me, and I love looking back at all of the Halmark Ornaments I've received from her over the years. They're all dated, and some are now valuable collectibles. I've done this for my GS too and at 4 he looks forward to seeing what his ornament will look like for that year.
I got these as Christmas gifts though. For an actual Baptism gift, I'd do something with religious significance, a cross, children's bible, etc. Things remembered also has some beautiful special gifts that can be personalized.

We've got a storage bin of things that DD got for her baptism that much of it is lovely, but you can only use so many "Baptism" plaques and saying things. I'd caution against getting things like that..
On my side we have the tradition of giving savings bonds then when they're old enough to appreciate them they'll have more money ($25=$50 bond)... Then as they age we get them something special to go along with it. On the other side, not so much. I guess IMNSHO, unless you're doing something that's going to be an add-on such as the PP mentioned with the Christmas Ornaments (my Godmother gave me an angel collection), or financial investment type thing (have heard stock in Disney, McDonald's, Ruger, etc. companies that have a solid track record of being in business).. Otherwise, go with things that they can use now (clothes 2sizes bigger than where you think the kiddo is now). I've also heard of the Godparents purchasing the baptismal outfit.
