We are going to start giving E solids next week. From what I heard, their poop starts to change once they start solids. Right now, since she only takes in milk, our DCP just puts all dirty CDs (we only use BG 3.0s/4.0s) in the wet bag and then we toss them in the cd diaper pail when we get home. Now, I am wondering what i need to do differently since her poop will now change consistency. Shall I have her wear liners while in daycare so they can just toss it out when she poops and then toss the dirty cd in the wetbag? how do you handle yours?
Re: CD mamas with babies in day care
No day care for us, but I have to say that I was SO close to giving up CDing once we started solids!
Do you think you could start solids right before a weekend, or when you might have time to see how it affects her? I only say that because A's poop was awful (and frequent) once we started on solids, and I had to play around with my diapering technique to figure out how to deal with it.
Even if it's not perfect, I think a liner will probably help keep your wetbag a little more manageable and your diapers a little cleaner. I used a disposable liner (cloth-like Viva paper towel), but it was still a hot stewy mess all.the.time. (it was a long time before his poop was semi-solid too.) The liner helped a little -- at least some stuff went out nicely into the toilet -- but poop still got everywhere. I don't know, though, maybe my son just has a really funky digestive system...
Good luck with the transition!
Bella's poops are NEVER consistent and they are still more like peanut butter. We tried liners but they didn't work, her poops would still be all over. Our DCP puts them in the wetbag and then we dump them when we get home. Not ideal but it works...
DOes anyone have a diaper sprayer? Does it work for the PB poop?
Henry's poops are also inconsistent, or maybe I should say they go in phases (they'll be pretty solid for a few weeks, then more PB again for a while). I still like the liners, because they catch most of it.
We do not have sprayer on the toilet (bought one, but it wouldn't hook up properly, so we returned it), but we do have a regular garden hose with a jet sprayer hooked up to our huge iron utility sink in the basement next to the washer. When some poop misses the liner, I just take it down there and spray it. That's also where I take apart the daycare dipes every evening and I spray anything then if it needs it (usually it doesn't, I just need to disassemble, since we use only pockets).
we have one... she hardly ever has "solid" poop that just plops out like it's supposed to. not sure if it's b/c of her diet? I thankfully don't have to deal with poopy diapers anymore, though, since she just poops in the toilet now
anyway, it does work for the soft mushy poop that is schmeared all over your diaper but there is a "technique" to it so you don't get water hitting the diaper and then spraying all over the place... you have to hit it almost parallel to the diaper so it barely skims the poop and pushes it off, you don't want to spray perpendicular to the diaper. I would definitely get one... I did the dunk and swish in the very beginning (just a few times) while waiting for our sprayer to arrive and the sprayer makes dealing with poops a thousand times better!

Yeah, it definitely helps, but it can still cause a big mess and it's hard to manage a baby that wants to stick his hands in everything AND a poopy diaper that needs to be sprayed and then transferred into the dry pail. I love CDing, but honestly, it's been hard to keep it up since the solid poops started. Even now, his poop is rarely ploppable. I so miss the BF days!
I'm jealous! Bella peed in the potty a few times and now she says "potty" and then goes right on the floor when she's naked
Stinker! I even ask her a million times if she wants to sit on the potty and she says no, I'm not sure why all of a sudden she doesn't want too...
the trick is to have a separate bin for the dirty diaper...we have a small plastic bin that i used to put it in so i could wipe her, put on a fresh diaper, etc. then after she had a clean diaper on i'd just set her down and go into the bathroom to deal w/the dirty diaper
when she says potty and pees on the floor, if you can catch her doing it, also say "potty!" (so you can cue it) and then sweep her off the floor and put her on the potty. if she gets even a few extra drops in the potty, get real excited and celebrate that (sing a song, do a dance, whatever), even if she peed on the floor. she'll soon get it
i've also read that you should never ask a toddler if they need to potty b/c the answer will always be no, even if they really do have to go =P
we've got poops down but we're still working on the pee. some days i'll go through 2 diapers and other days we'll go through 6-8. i have no idea why sometimes she holds it for only 45 min and then other times she'll hold it for 1.5 hours. but we're going coverless a lot these days b/c i'm working on keeping her as dry as possible so she learns that it's nice to be dry
today we were reading a book and it said "what's the opposite of dry?" and when she heard the word dry she pointed to her diaper and said "dry!" i don't thinks he understands what dry and wet mean yet, just that i'm always pointing to her diaper during diaper changes and telling her if it's dry or wet LOL at least Bella recognizes what she is doing when she pees (I don't think A does) and says something! that's the first step

Can I just say that this is why I'm terrified of starting solids with K! haha, her poops is so easy to deal with right now. Please keep us updated on how it goes, as this will be me in about 2 months (I want to wait until 6 months as well to start any solids), and I'm trying to figure out what we will do as well.
I fear DH will begin to hate our CDs once this change occurs, however he's not the primary diaper changer anyway, so we will see!
aww, man. we'll be starting solids next week, and i've successfully avoided thinking about the poops until now
having heard stories from his friends, I think MH has always expected we'll stop CD'ing after starting solids. he was skeptical to CD to begin with and is fine with it now*, but we'll see how things go in the next few weeks!
* totally off topic, but in fact, MH prefers using PF's over all our pockets and AIOs! as does my dad. it's very strange. I have a dozen pockets and AIOs that no one uses but me, and i only use them to leave the PF's for my dad, who watches E for us during the day! i kinda wish I hadn't spent all that money on the pockets and AIOs
ditto pp - daycare can't handle the poop, the just roll the diaper up and I deal with it at home. I have a sprayer - love it! I spray as needed and squirt biokleen on it and put it in the pail until wash day.
solids didn't really cause me too much stress. We also didn't get any of the infamous peanut butter poo so I can't really complain. J mostly just poo's on the toilet once at wake up and then small amounts (if any) during the day so that helps me too I guess.
Good point. I don't have a bin, but I leave it on the side and come back to it after diapering him. Problem is.... when I set him down, he won't sit still! If the diaper is a disaster, I'll plop him in his crib (not very popular with him), otherwise he'll usually run after me and try to "help." I have not been good with boundary setting, I guess!
lucky you! on both fronts! we still get soft mushy poo all the time but at least it's usually in the toilet. but she still has 2-3 poops/day, not just an AM poop like J!
