NBR- Brown Widows

Last week H found one out in the carport after I had just walked right past it with DS in my arms... It was promptly stomped on. I swore I would annihilate every spider/web/nest on the outside of the house, but haven't had the time to. Well, to put the fire back under my azz, mother nature decided it would be awesome to put a BIG Momma brown widow on the outside trash can, right where my hand would normally go to lift the lid. Indifferent Guarding 2 little egg sacks. A buddy and I killed it (with spray; I wasn't going to touch it), then I decided to check out the rest of the trash can... glad I did. Found 10 more egg sacks. UGH. Now I'm afraid to take out the trash, since the can seems like a perfect breeding ground....

  • Def call to get your house sprayed.  We had a problem last year with them hiding out in my mailbox and on our front porch.  Knock on wood - haven't seen them yet this year.

  • We have several wasp and hornet's nests surrounding our house. H sprayed them last summer, they have come back with a vengeance!

You can spray outside for spiders??? Omg why didn't I know this?!! I have the biggest phobia & this would help immensely I think. DH wants me to go to a shrink for it, but I think eradication might serve everyone better.

  • I bought some DIY bug and spider spray for the house... I've asked H to do it, but he probably won't. I'll do it on my next day off.

  • I've heard of a black widow and a brown recluse.  But I've never heard of a brown widow.  What do they look like?  We have black widows that live in the stonework facade of our garage.  When I was a teacher, I used to find them occasionally in my classroom!

  • Get ready for a BATTLE!  We had brown widows last summer.  And let me tell you, those things spread like wild fire!  And are SOOO hard to get rid of.  Mostly b/c it is hard to kill the eggs (they are like little glass spikes), and then if they aren't destroyed, they produce baby spiders which go make more eggs!  We had to eventually hire someone bc DH spraying did not do enough.  Then we hosed down with the hose everyday to get them out of our porch (screened in).  GL!!!!  THey are a PITA!!!!

  • We have brown widows here too, Holly. :( They are wicked and SO nasty. I was told spraying does nothing because they hide, and when they come out all the food they they would eat and be poisoned with is dead. We've had to deal with them for years, and now that it's getting warm out they're out again. We've killed at least 7 in my house in the last week, even Aidan has killed 2 upstairs!! They hate baking soda, so I put some on plates and put the plates under my couch (where they *used* to love to hide) and I haven't seen ANY since. I need to shake some fresh baking powder soon alone the walls and doors. HATE them spiders.
