Washington Babies

Really, lady?

L and I were out for lunch at a cafe with a play area.  This kid (probably not quite 3yo) comes in and immediately dumps a huge bin full of puzzle pieces and blocks onto the floor.  Then he nearly slams Lila's arm in the play area door.  The mom says nothing about either of these things.  Within 10 minutes they were gone, leaving the play area completely trashed.

I cannot imagine ever doing that.  Walking into a place, watching my kid trash it, not saying even one word to him about cleaning up the giant mess he'd just made, and then just bailing.  WTH is wrong with people?

Re: Really, lady?

  • I'm guessing either she could care less or she "assumes" it's the employees job to clean it up. So ridiculous! I'm with you, I would never do that.

  • I think that's so rude. Yes its a play area, but I think you should always try and leave the place looking like it did when you got there. But I'm one of those moms who will clean food off the floor at a restaurant etc. My DH used to hate it when I did that and now he helps me :)

I do the same thing!  I feel like a total as$hole if I don't.  I worked in food service for 15 years and I know how it is to be on the receiving end of bad behavior like that.

And, shame on that lady for not trying to teach her child to be respectful other people's property, time, and energy!

  • I will be teaching my children to clean up after themselves, no matter where we are!

    Yes and yes!

  • I'm trying to imagine what kind of chaos she lives in at home.

    *sigh*

This is me, too. I have had busers and waitstaff tell me to stop, that they will get it. But no! They aren't paid enough to clean up after my child. Especially when he throws sticky rice, grain by grain, on the floor. It's my job as a mother to clean up after him when he is too little to do it himself, and it is also my job to teach him to clean up after himself once he is ready to do so (which, now he is).

  • Yeah, people suck.

I was at a restaurant the other day and noticed the large party next to us left a crap load of food on the floor under their kid. I used to work in restaurants and I hated it then... now I just think it's the ultimate in laziness. How little respect do you have to have for people to just let your kid throw sh!t everywhere and then not even attempt to clean it up?!
