cracking pelvic bones

I have always had a back that needs to be cracked from time to time...but nowadays it seems to happen on it's own.  My hips feel like they want to crack a lot as well as my tailbone whenever I roll over.  I know they are probably just trying to prepare for birth but I also find my pubic bone at the front sometimes "pops" loudly...

It freaks me out cause I have this scary image of baby's head in my pelvis and then the bones cracking around her little head :(

is anyone else having this?

Re: cracking pelvic bones

  • When I lay down and press my knees together I can totally feel my hips pop.  I think it just goes along with your joins loosening up before the big day.

  • I haven't actually had mine pop...But don't worry about it. That bone often shifts/stretches weeks, even months before labor...In actually it isn't a bone, but cartilage. It might sound and feel freaky, but from everything I have heard, it is normal.

(Mine does hurt though....so I know mine is...)

  • Mine have just started cracking (although I try to make sure I keep my legs parallel and my hips/pelvis in alignment so this does NOT happen.) My pelvis/pubic bone hurts ALL the time so it really sucks and the cracking is just an added bonus. I'm ready to see this little boy so I can quit being in pain because of all that.

glad I'm not alone...I try to keep my legs parallel too...but I guess in my sleep I'm less careful.

  • I just started noticing this. It isn't necessarily by pelvic bones but the lower spine area for sure. Doesn't the hormone relaxin start kicking in? That would make sense. I'm so bad about my posture. I'm sitting in my computer chair with my legs folded over.

  • It is relaxin that causes it.  Yeah, I'm in the same boat.  Lots of cracking, even in the front of my hip now.  It feels so wierd!!!!  And it hurts!
