Hi there! Just popping in from 3-6 months. DH and I are planning a trip to DC for a training seminar for me in Nov. and LO will be 3 weeks shy of one year when we go, so I thought you all might be the best group of moms to pose this question to-
What have been your sleeping arrangements with staying in a hotel with LO?
Our issue (or should I say, "my concerns") are: LO sleeps well at night, in her crib (still swaddled at almost 6 months- eek!) and when we stay in the hotel room, she will be in a crib in the same room with us. Right now her bedtime is between 6-7pm and although I know it will be later when she is almost one, but it will still be earlier than our bedtime. I will be in training each day (4 days total) until 10/10:30pm, so DH will be putting LO to bed. Let's say LO goes to bed at 8pm (is that reasonable at 1 year?) what can he do in the room until his bedtime (I guess around 11pm when I get in) that won't wake LO. DH is not a reader, so that's out of the question. Also, a 2 bdrm suite is 4 times the price of a single room, so that is out of the question too!! I'm just worried that LO won't sleep well if DH is in the same room watching TV. I've suggested that he watch movies on his laptop with headphones, and although he didn't love doing that for 4 nights, he may just have to. I have the same concerns about when she naps. Thoughts?
TIA!
Re: sleeping arrangements in a hotel room?
My DD is almost a year and still goes to bed around 6:30 - 7:00pm. Your DH is going to have to watch movies / hulu (if you have internet) with headphones while your DD is sleeping or read. Yes it's a bummer but as parents we have to do what we have to do.
We have stayed in hotels with my DD and have had to watch movies on the Ipad with headphones at night.
We take a pack n' play with us.
LO played on the bed with us, we took her for a swim and she motored around on the floor for a bit. By 9pm she was asleep and DH had the TV on low.
1) 6 months is not that long for a swaddle, we just unswaddled DS a few weeks ago and he's 11 months.
2) If your LO is used to sleeping alone in a dark quiet place she'll have trouble sleeping in teh same room no matter what. I suggest you bring a sound machine and try sticking the head of her pnp in the closet or something to resemble a separate room. Your DH may have to sleep or watch a movie on a computer. Or...
ask for the handicap suite and put the pnp in the bathroom while she sleeps.
I babysat my sister's 3 month old in her hotel room for 5 days straight. Talk about going stir crazy.
I watched movies/TV on my laptop with earphones during the day and surfed the web. At night we just watched TV on low or read.
We did the hotel thing a couple weeks ago - and the hotel gave us one double bed and no playpen. We laid DD on our bed on her own blanket until she was well asleep. Then moved her to the floor with extra blankets underneath her. She was shadowed from the bed so that the light from the TV wasn't on her. She also doesn't wake from noise so having the TV on wasn't a problem.
She did wake up early in the morning (4ish) and we just brought her into bed with us for the last few hours.
Great idea, but what do you do if you have to pee?!
Extra diapers??
Lol! I have visions of doing the adult version of the "pee pee" dance in the middle of the night! There are bathrooms in the lobby of most hotels, so this scenario might actually work out! Thanks!
