I had a very easy labor and delivery- thank God! It has been three weeks and I feel great. I was told to wait until my six week appt to be cleared for exercise other than walking. I am going crazy! I am a bigger runner and want to start again. I have done the 30 day shred the last two days and feel great. Has anyone started jogging before their 6 week appt? Is 6 weeks a typical time frame?
Thanks
Re: Jogging three weeks after delilvery?
I fear I'm going to be in this same boat. I love getting outside and doing stuff and if I feel good at three weeks I'm going to be tempted to get out and do stuff, irregardless of the doc's suggestions. That being said, you did just birth a human. This was a major stress to your body and you really do need to think about the impact running/jogging may have after that.
Maybe try walking for a bit and see how that goes. You can still stay in shape and get out. You won't be able to go as far as you might while running, but walking can be great. As your body is adjusting back to being not pregnant your joints will probably protest a lot to the jarring of running. You can also walk with the baby if you can't find someone to watch the new LO.
In my birthing class the nurse was like, "well if you feel okay and you get out your body will tell you if you're doing too much. So if you feel fine, get out and then feel worse, give yourself a break and take a few more days off, then try again the following week," when I asked about this very thing though.
Ultimately it is up to you and how you feel. As a runner you know your body better than any doctor ever could and sometimes you need to do what is best for you. Your sanity may be worth the risk of getting yelled at when you tell the doc you've been running since 3 weeks post-partum. Yes, I believe that you should tell the doc stuff you do regardless of what their opinion is because it is just that -- an opinion, and you know your body best -- but they should also be aware of what's happening in your body to help you the best that they can.
I felt great 3 weeks after my deliver but when I went to get checked at my 6 week PP appointment, my doc said to wait until 8 weeks before jogging. I was a little suprised since i felt so good so I just walked for 8 weeks.
When i was able to jog again, I was able to ease right back into it. I just finished a half marathon 2 weeks ago when LO was 5 months old (and did a personal best).

I don't know how comfortable you feel speaking with your dr, but you could always call your doctor and ask if that's fine.
