Told to stop immediately!

I went to my OB today because I am expecting our 2nd.  I still exclusively breastfeed my 6 month old.  He told me I had to stop breastfeeding immediately.   He said I could "finish today, but needed to stop tomorrow."  What an idiot.  I've researched the topic, and am comfortable with continuing as is my 6 month old's doctor.  Just wondering if anyone else has been in this situation and what they did.  I do not plan to quit, just not sure if I should change doctors, or just continue and not tell him...

    My dr said it was fine to continue breastfeeding.  Though my supply has really dropped in the last few weeks, so we are now supplementing and increasing solids.

    I would change my OB.

    I'm afraid my OB is going to tell me the same thing...just got a BFP last night.

    yeah, you've done the research to know that it's safe,

    your body will provide for the fetus first, so breastfeeding doesn't put the fetus at risk,

    your breastmilk supply may or may not drop, most women experience some lowering of supply, so a younger baby may end up needing to get a bit more supplements/solids than they might otherwise get.

    I would find a new OB, because otherwise you'll be fighting over this.  if anything isn't perfect in your pregnancy, your OB will be likely to blame it on breastfeeding.

    How bizarre. That makes me wonder what other outdated beliefs your doctor has. Are you otherwise confident about his care?

    When I went to my first prenatal appointment and told the doctor that I was still breastfeeding, she said, "That's wonderful!" and moved right on to her checklist of questions. I breastfed until I was three months pregnant, when DS self-weaned.

    Your doc sounds like an idiot, he basically just gave you advice on how to get mastitis.  Hope you find a better doctor, GL!
