I'm not surprised...

but I failed my GTT. Off to nutritional counseling I go!

FWIW, I technically failed with DS, but was never officially treated as having GD, they just said it was from my gastric bypass. Either way, I'll just go on the diet. Fun times.

  • I'm sorry to hear that. Sad

Do you know why someone fails? As bad as it is, I eat a lot of sugar. I just have a major sweet tooth. Can this cause GD? I'm clearly clueless on this.

ETA sweet*** tooth. I don't crave sweat. Ew.

  • I'm sorry. That stinks.

I know there are worse things... but one of my best friends had it. More like a giant PITA.

    Take care : )

It's just something you get or you don't get.  You can't cause yourself get it by eating sugary foods, and you can't avoid it if you're predestined to have it.  It has something to do with the way the placenta works, but I can't remember the specifics.  So no, eating sweets will not make you get GD.

  • Sorry to hear that--that sucks. At least in October, you won't have to worry about it.

  • Sorry you failed :( This is my second time with GD. The diet sucks, but you get used to it. I've even managed to find an ice cream that doesn't send my blood sugar wonky :)

I have heard that severe cravings for sweets can be a sign of GD, though.  Accompanied by other symptoms, of course - just craving sweets doesn't mean you have GD.  Feeling "funny" after meals, weird vision from time to time, serious thirst, etc.  I feel like I'm going to fail my GTT too, for some reason, even though I haven't had all of these symptoms.

It's caused by a hormone change during pregnancy, not by anything you eat.  Basically pregnancy makes your hormones go nuts and sometimes it affects the way you process sugar.  If you can't process sugar, you have GD.  My husband explained it to me because I was worried that it was something I could "prevent", but he assured me that it is not - you either get it or you don't.
