Hi, so I have been doing awesome about not stressing this whole pregnancy although I am typically a person that worries about everything. From following these blogs though I do have 2 new worries and just want to see if people can provide me more info on them since honestly at this point I feel like I get more info on here than calling my drs office to ask info based questions.
1.) I have seen a couple people in Sept have issues with leaking amnio fluid. My question is how the heck do you know if you are with all of the increased CM? At 21 weeks I feel like I am constantly damp down there (sometimes more than damp, sorry if tmi). I've read this is completely normal but I just honestly don't think I would know if I were leaking as well. Are there other symptoms? I just want to know for info purposes to be on the look out if it is at all common.
2.) How do you know if you should take an iron supliment or have low iron? I am 21 weeks on Thursday and as far as I know I don't have any blood draws coming up until the glucose test, which I think will be around 28 weeks. I don't want to take something I don't need but I don't know if you feel different when you have low iron.
Thanks everyone!
Re: 2 Questions (1 maybe tmi)
1. I haven't seen anyone here leaking amnio fluid. Must have missed that. I don't think it's common at all. Fluid from your breasts, yes. If you are leaking amnio fluid, you need to speak with your dr. when my water broke (at 38 weeks), it was clear and watery. Must different than the usual CM.
2. Your prenatals should have iron in them, so you should be fine.
1. I've seen two ladies that were having problems with their amnio fluid. They said that the leakage had a smell consistent with bleach or ammonia. So, if you smell something foul - check with your doctor.
2. Your doctor would have told you if you were deficient in anything. And with taking prenatals the majority of women don't need other supplements so if you're worried I'd again check with my doctor. They can look at your chart and see where your levels were on your last blood draw. (You may have had one at about 18 - 20 weeks for the quad screening. Your iron levels were assessed then).
1. I don't know about amnio fluid leaks. Never had that experience.
2. Your doctor or midwife should let you know if you need a supplement. When pregnant with DD I had iron deficiency anemia and my midwife told me. I started to feel the symptoms before they even told me though. I would walk my dog every morning for about 45 minutes and by the time we got home I was so dizzy I had to sit or I felt like was going to fall over. I was also extremely tired and sleepy - more than usual. You feel a bit weaker and less energetic in my experience.
They also recommend eating cream of wheat and green spinach. They put me on a supplement apart from the prenatal. I needed to get my levels up a lot in order to qualify for a birth center delivery. They should be able to tell you your iron levels at your next appointment. I believe they test it in the regular prenatal blood panels.
HTH
I would actually disagree with this. it smelled sweet to me.
I'm so relieved to have read this. *big sigh*
