unreasonable fears-what's yours?

when the boys were not mobile I was always (unreasonably) afraid I would forget one when I went out. how does a person forget a baby?!

what is/was your silly fear?

Re: unreasonable fears-what's yours?

  • Mine is that we'll mix up the babies early on, and end up raising them with the "wrong" names.

  • I am afraid of dropping them. I am pretty, well very clumsy. I think about it alot maybe that is my minds way of making me be more careful.

  • Mine isn't baby related, but I come downstairs after going to bed almost every night to make sure the oven/stove is off.

Well, it's never been on when I come to check but last week I went outside, smelled gas, and realize I left the grill on all night.  So, I guess my fear isn't totally irrational.

I have a major fear of flying. I have to take meds if I fly anywhere.

I can't really think of any irrational baby related fears.

  • Since they're eating solids now and introducing some finger foods -- choking.

  • Choking.  I would like to keep them on purees forever.

Although I have no reason to be I'm also worried that one of them will have ASD.  1 in 60 boys is diagnosed with it these days.  That figure just blows me away!

  • Considering that they are ID, that one gets "sick" therefor inevitably, the other one will too.

  • We're moving the girls to whole milk now.  I'm weaning them off their afternoon bottle, so they get 6 oz of formula in the AM and 6 oz of formula before bed with a 4 oz bottle in the afternoon.

I'm saving switching their evening bottle to milk last...I'm worried it will somehow effect their sleep.

I'm also worried that whole milk is a "big kid" drink and my girls are still "babies." Crying

  • Right now, I'm hugely afraid that I will give Nanette whole milk for the first time (to test her milk protein allergy), and her throat will close up, and the ambulance won't be able to get here in time.

I know that isn't the type of allergy she has, and the doctor would never tell me to give it to her at home if she wasn't absolutely sure this wouldn't happen...but still I'm totally worried about it.

I'm also irrationally afraid of flying.

Day to day, I'm one of those people who's always convinced she left the garage door open or the stove or the flat iron on.  Frustrating.

Baby related, I worry that something is going to happen to one or both.  I got PG with spontaneous twins, got the gender combo I hoped for, and they were born full term and healthy.  I just feel like this is too good to be true and I'm always waiting for the other shoe to drop.

  • OMG, I have a ton.  My major ones:

That growing up, one will be the "prettier" or "smarter" one.  Kids/teens can be such a-holes and I would hate for one to be favored.

That they have something wrong with them since they aren't talking at 15 months.

  • My current fears are pregnancy/in utero related: Preterm Labor and TTTs.

With my 2 yr dd, it's her rejecting me completely when the babies are born. She is already a daddies girl, but I'm worried that when the babies are little and I'm nursing, it's going to put a huge strain in our relationship.

When the babies are born, I'm incredibly worried about mixing them up.

My TOTALLY irrational non baby related fears are: Sharks, Snakes and Alligators. I live in Michigan where none of these creatures reside, so go figure. But if I think of any of these creatures, I can send myself into a panic attack.

This! I I really don't have any reason to think this. Neither of them has displayed any unusual behavior or anything, but I guess you just hear about it so much these days that I often worry that one of the boys will be on the spectrum. Wow, 1 in 60!? That is incredible!

  • After reading other posts I have a couple of more.

I also get worried about one being the "prettier" one.  Even though they are ID, it still does happen.  I found myself doing that to the ID twin who was on 16 and Pregnant.

Also, that I'll get PG with twins again.  I had spontaneous ID twins, so my chances are like 1 in 1,000 or something...but it still makes me nervous.  I love my girls and, as you all know, twins are "effing awesome", but I don't think I could do it again.  It was so so so hard in the beginning.

  • Non-baby related - I will not walk on a street grate or manhole cover because I have a fear I will plummet to my death 1000 feet straight down.

Baby related - Because I have one that is very clingy and one that is very independent I am afraid the independent one will think I love him less.

  • I'm terrified, conceptually, of dropping one. Especially on the stairs. I get my heartrate up just thinking about it.

  • That something is wrong with my babies b/c they aren't babbling yet. In general, I agonize about the milestones, even though I've learned that while they hit most of the milestones on the late side, they do eventually get there.

I'm also VERY afraid of them choking. I nearly had a panic attack last weekend trying to give them mum mums. We haven't tried any actual foods yet.

  • Non baby related:  I am deathly afraid of flying.  I am always scared someone is going to break into my house while I am like in the shower or something.  And I am a very nervous passenger in a car, I always have my foot on the "imaginary break". oh...and I HATE storms!  I live in Nebraska, so there are some springs where there is a tornado like every weekend.  I panic!  Everyone always tells me I need to get out of Tornado Alley!

Baby Related:  We have very narrow doorways and hallways in my house, I am always scared DH or I will accidentally miscalculate and run one of the babies heads into the wall/doorway.  Also, we have a split level house, and the way we have our living room set up right behind our couch is the railing and stairs, I am afraid they will fall, especially when they are more mobile.  I think I have talked DH into putting a wall there.  I actually think I am unreasonably afraid of everything when it comes to the babies...I do have GAD, I used to be medicated for it, but have learned to control my panic attacks.  Having babies has put a whole no light on anxiety, but I think I have it under control for now!

I'm terrified of this as well. I didn't list it b/c I don't even think it's an "unreasonable" fear. Every milestone my boys fail to hit on time just brings the fear right back. Crying

Been there, done that.  We have an OLD house- circa 1850.  Several doorways are very narrow and DH and I have both definitely done that.  It sucks.

Mine is that I'm terrified they're going to fall down the stairs. The door to their part of the house is right by the top of the stairs. Wooden stairs that go straight down to a ceramic tile floor. I'm keeping the gate up until they're 18.

(And, MrsLnt, I felt the same way. I feel like I got too lucky, surely the universe will snatch some of my good luck back somehow?)

Oh my gosh, we've done that. Not with the twins because I'm super careful now, but we've done it with our other kids. Our house was built in 1911 and crappily added on to over the years so we don't have narrow doorways or anything, we're just really dumb apparently!

  • I am deathly afraid of flying. It makes me cry to think of having to fly somewhere.

I am also afraid I wont be able to get my kids out of the house/car if something were to happen. There have been several house fires in the last month and there were 2 car fires in the same week. I just cant get it out of my head that this could happen.

I also live in an area that gets tornadoes, so if we have a rainy day, I get a bag packed just incase we have to go to the basement. Yep, just for rain I get a bag packed, my h thinks I am nuts but you never know when a tornado will pop up.

  • Baby related: Forgetting one somewhere, or constantly doing something (food/bath/etc) for one baby and forgetting to do it for the others. I'm also terrified that I'll try to get too productive and be carrying two at once and knock their head against the wall or something (I do it to the belly all the time, why not a kid!? lol).

Ditto ditto ditto ditto.  The more time that passes, the more I realize that I really don't want my boys to be my last babies but they were spontaneous and are identical and I am a fraternal twin.  I really don't know how that correlates in terms of what my odds of having twins again are but a) I don't know if I could do it again and b) damnit, I want to know what it's like to have one baby! :)

Also add me to the list of those with fears of their kids choking.  Mine are 13 months and do great with eating but I am terrified of all the things they could easily choke on, food and otherwise.

  • That the babies will climb down their cribs at night and escape into the backyard and fall into the pool. We close their bedroom door, all the doors are always locked AND we have a pool gate. I'm still terrified. Also, once the new baby is here that I will NEVER sleep again. I really am scared about that.
