Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Anyone's 6 mo old not rolling over?

My LO is so stubborn! She hates laying on the floor on her tummy or back but will not roll over. She can sit well and she's trying to almost "army crawl" when she's on her belly but won't roll. I feel like she's developing on track otherwise, just stubbon. Anyone else?

  • I posted about this a week or so ago and got a lot of positive reassurance  :)   And then seriously the next day its like she knew I was talking about her because she turned into a rolling fool.

It will come.  And if it doesn't, it sounds like she is doing just fine in other areas.  Don't worry!

DS just rolled back to belly about 2 weeks ago.

I guess better late than never!

  • N has rolled a couple times, but I think he's lazy...he sits up great and does great at tummy time and everything else, but just likes to turn his shoulders and reach for things when on his back vs rolling to get to them. He just doesn't seem interested.

He's growing up, but he'll always be my baby!

  • My DS is almost 8 months now (eek!) and will not roll to his belly. He is now crawling, and can go from crawl to sit, and all kinds of other things. He will roll to his side to reach for or look at a toy, but he has yet to roll all the way to his tummy.

Given that he's doing everything else early or on schedule, I'm not worried.

It doesn't hurt to mention it at the 6-month appointment, but I bet your pedi isn't worried, either, unless there are other signs of developmental delay.

  • He could just not be interested in it. DD started rolling around 6 months, and DS didn't start utnil 6.5 months. Since then, we can't keep them off their bellies, to the point where DD won't sit unassisted, and DS just started doing it this weekend. They just want to be on their bellies on the move and aren't interested in doing anything else.
  • Yeah, mine isn't rolling either way yet.  She gets thisclose to rolling back to belly, but just doesn't seem to care enough to make the effort to finish the job!  She did fall onto a toy from sitting the other day, and the toy got stuck under her hip, so she rolled off of it (belly to back).  But the toy kind of threw her off balance anyway.

I asked a friend of mine that's a paediatric physiotherapist, and she said just to do lots of tummy time and floor time, put things out of her reach and help her by lifting her hip, pulling on a foot, whatever to start the roll and then let her finish.  But doctor and public health nurse both said not to worry because she's doing fine with everything else.  I think she just doesn't want to roll, but could if she decided to.  She's a stubborn girl!

  • Oh good, thank you ladies. I know I shouldn't worry, as long as other things are on track but I kinda felt like the doctor was surprised when I told her she wasn't doing that yet. She asked if she would roll to one side... NOPE LOL not that either. Oh well!

Finn rolled belly to back very early, but until yesterday had not done back to belly.  Yesterday I left him on the play mat and went downstairs for less than 2 minutes.  When I came back up he was on his way to rolling under the dresser on the other side of the room.  However, today when I put him on his back on the floor he just looks at me like he has no idea he rolled yesterday.  He also loathes tummy time still.

I mentioned it at our 6 month appointment and the pedi wasn't concerned at all.

  • About a month and half ago T would roll belly to back and rolled back to belly once. She has either forgotten how or decided she is too cool for rolling because she stopped.
