Dizzy spells all day

So I'm not one to sit here and worry about every little thing that feels out of the ordinary during pregnancy and continually debate whether or not to call my doctor. In fact, I don't at all. I have my list of medications from the doctor that I can take for all different kinds of ailments, I know that general discomfort and pains are to be expected.

BUT today I woke up and felt disoriented right from the start and then at work this morning at about 11:30 I had to sit down for about 10 minutes because I had an immediate sence of dizziness as if I was going to pass out. After about 10 minutes I was fine but again this afternoon I felt a little dizzy after eating lunch and now I feel like it's a chore to even move my arms. I'm not dizzy right now, and I don't want to use the phrase "having trouble breathing" because that's not really what I'm feeling but it kind of almost is.

I feel LO moving all over the place (he even had hiccups earlier) so I'm not super concerned that something is wront with him. I'm more curious as to why I am feeling the way I am feeling. I don't know if it's exhaustion, dehydration (which I've been drinking nothing but H2O all day), blood pressure, blood sugar, etc. When I was pregnant with DD I used to get really dizzy in the shower from the heat and steam but never under any other circumstances and it was due to low blood pressure.

If I feel like this again tomorrow I will most likely end up calling my doctor. But for now, have any of you ladies experienced anything similar?? I talked to my mom and all she could tell me was that it's normal, that she used to pass out quite frequently during pregnancy (which is true--she passed out while driving to a doctor's appointment and totalled her boyfriend's car 1 week before my 2 year old brother was born)----but I don't find that reassuring because she's the type of person who thinks everything is fine (if you're not bleeding and don't have broken bones there's no need to go to the doctor lol).

Re: Dizzy spells all day

  • That's the worst. :[

I also had dizzy spells a few days out of the week about 2 weeks ago. I will also still occasionally be short of breath, but nothing that lasts longer than 10 minutes or so. I haven't asked my OB about it, but Dr. Google says everything's fine (as long as it's not very persistant).

But I think you have the right idea to bring it up to your doctor if it continues. Hope you feel better!

I would call your doctor and go through your symptoms with the nurse. I'm sure they'll have questions for you and they can tell you whether or not it's a big deal. THey might also know things you can do to make it stop.

At least, that's what my dr's office always does for me. I call whenever something seems strange just to see if it's normal or alarming to them.

  • I get dizzy from time to time also. I just use process of elimination to determine why. Possible issues:

    1. Dehydration

    2. Not eating enough (or haven't had enough protein lately. Sometimes I'll notice I feel dizzy if I've had too many carbs and not enough protein).

    3. Overly tired

    4. Blood pressure spike or drop

  • Yeah, I might call tomorrow if it's still going on. Like I said, I used to get dizzy in the shower with DD (had to actually sit in the shower for the entire last half of pregnancy) but never just in the middle of my day while I was at the front door talking to someone have I thought "Oh God, I'm going down" lol. When I had my miscarriage I passed out in the ER from dehydration (I was SO dehydrated that they put an IV in each arm) and that was exactly how I felt this morning at work.

For now I'll just sit on the couch and drink LOTS of water. Thank goodness DH is out of town or he would be freaking out and most likely would have shoved me in the car and told me we're going to the hospital by now....he worries hard core

  • I was super dizzy a few weeks ago. My midwife thought it was blood pressure related and recommended acupuncture. First treatment and the dizziness was gone! I highly highly recommend it!
  • I was at the hospital a few weeks ago for really severe dizziness.  They checked me for GD, low blood pressure, dehydration, anemia, etc.  At the end of it all, they ruled all of that out and said that pregnancy hormones can cause the tubes in your inner ear to swell.  They also believe that I was too exhausted and recommended I reduce my hours at work.  It's gotten a little better since then. I do recommend going to the doctor to rule out everything else, though...it's a very scary feeling.
