Flying with milk and baby - advice

Anyone have any advice?

We have a 2 hour flight. I'm flying with breastmilk. I'm gate checking the carseat in hopes there are empty seats (There are 10 now). I'm gate checking also the stroller.

I'm hoping she sleeps but she isn't a sleep anywhere baby. She prefers her bed. I'm getting nervous and now debating on leaving her with grandma. Huh?

  • Just have it out and ready to show security when you go through. IAH was a breeze.  They dont open the bottles or anything, just send it through the xray machine, use some little wand on the outside of the bottles and send you on your way.

If you are in a smaller airport as your destination (like Jackson, MS), be prepared for them to be obnoxious and have you open every bottle and treat you like a bit of a nuisance.  Again, just take it out of whatever cooler you have and show it to them right away.  Smile, if you arent in the south use your best southern accent, be nice, etc.   (Really, I'm exaggerating, they were always super nice about the milk, it was the baby carrier that I had used at IAH with no problems that they freaked over and threatened to pat me down when I mentioned Houston had no problem with it. )

  • I have never flown with LO, but I have flown with BM.  I have not had any problems with my milk, coolor or ice packs.  I have even flown out of the country with it.
  • You will be fine! I have traveled with LO (who is 10 months now, 4 times to date). As pp stated, IAH is really easy. There is usually a family line for security - so go through that line. When you get to the x-ray scanners, just tell them upfront that you are traveling with bottled breast milk. They will check and off you will go to your gate. =)

Gate check your stroller and car seat. Continental does allow you to bag check either a stroller or car seat at no charge. We have always bag checked the car seat and gate checked the stroller.

2 hours is not that bad. I would suggest bringing something can suck on (e.g., pacifier)  for take offs and landings - it helps relieve the pressure in their ears. You can also breast feed during take offs and landings (that is what I did).

     Good luck. =)
