Car seat for vacation - WWYD?

We are flying to Florida and did not get Katelyn a seat on the plane. Would you bring your own car seat and check it, or would you rent one from the car rental place?

And we are flying Delta. Am I reading correctly that it is free to check both strollers and car seats? Anyone know?

I have flown Delta long Haul and they allow car seat and stroller gate side.

Yes, delta will let you check strollers and car seats for free either at the counter or gate side. I think I'd bring my own just because it doesn't cost anything and you know how to work it and can guarantee it hasn't been in any accidents etc.

When DD was little, we always brought our own car seat. I know where it had been, when the last time it was cleaned, and how it worked. It was always easier to do that then to have to rent one when we get to where we're going. And yes, it is free to check carseats and strollers.

I would definitely bring my own, I just would have trust issues with a rented one.

It's free to check strollers and car seats, and I believe your diaper bag is not considered a carry-on. In other words, you can still have two carry on bags in addition to your diaper bag.

Thanks girls! I believe we will take one. And Delta said you can only check the car seat at the gate if it is part of the stroller (infant seat). Fingers crossed it doesn't get ruined!

I looked it up, because it's been a couple years since we flew. According to their own website, the car seat does not have to be an infant seat. When we flew with Justin, he was in his convertible seat and we checked it at the gate for free. They should not charge you for that. I would argue with them if they try to make you pay.

Just checked on Delta and diaper bags do count as a personal item. Bummer!

Thanks! I will definitely ask when we get there. I would much rather check it at the gate.

I just flew in February and the diaper bag counts as a personal item but you can still have a purse and a carry on, on top of the diaper bag...

So for example I had a purse, the diaper bag, and I carried on my luggage.

For the car seat, I would bring my own! I would also be worried that they would break it... they def do not take care of your stuff when they put the items under the plane!
