I have the champ and love it. I have to admit with DS being FF he only poops 1x a day...sometimes 2x depending on how much he eats...so poopy diapers go outside asap...only wet ones stay in the champ. I have never had smell issues. I think its worth it, but some dont agree.
Honestly, they all get stinky eventually. My BFF is a nanny and has been through both
kinds (champ and genie) and they both stink. We opted for a diaper pail
(don't remember the brand...but it's at BRU, white/blue, around $13).
You can use regular trash bags and it contains the smell when it's
closed. It helps to let it air out every now and then.

My friend has the Genie and loves it. I will probably go w. the Champ, only because I'm 'thrifty' and don't want to have to buy the bags. Plus, I've read reviews that they perform about the same (poop will smell like poop regardless, so if you have a particularly stinky blowout, you may want to take outside anyways...haha!)
We have the champ and though we're cding at home now, I liked the champ when we used it. Between bag changes, I would spray it with lysol and let it air out, so it never really smelled bad. The nursery never smelled like poop.
We're going with the Champ, based on reviews and the fact that you can use regular bags. I'm sure that with really stinky diapers, we'll just take them straight outside.
We have the Genie. I can't compare them b/c that's the only thing I've ever used, but I think it's great. We put all diapers in it, poop or wet, and never have any stink issues. You do have to buy the special bags, but I got a few containers at my showers and I'm still using them!
