Pregnant after 35

newbie, 1st time @ 42!

I'm just checking this forum out for the first time.

I'm 7 weeks, and getting married on June 17th.  Couldn't have been worse first trimester timing.  Trying to wrap up the wedding details while completely exhausted is not too fun.

Any suggestions for how to get sleep?  I wake up having to pee, and anxiety doesn't let me fall back asleep again.  Obviously, I can't take a sleeping pill.

Hoping my 1st appointment (in a week) will make me feel less anxious.  I just hope to hear the baby is progressing normally.

  • Welcome, and congratulations!  I don't have any advice, alas, the first trimester STINKS!  Well, yoga, prenatal yoga is great stuff.

Mostly I just hope that first appointment goes well, and you have a stable, easy pregnancy!  It can happen, my pregnancy with Margaux was pretty easy on me, and this one has been a cakewalk too.  I'm 43.  :)

  • Congrats on both the baby and the wedding.  Maybe reading before you go to bed with some tea, but then again, that could lead to another bathroom trip.  I've already went twice in 15 minutes and I stop drinking at 7pm.
  • First of all - welcome and congrats!!  I'm 42 also but this is my 3rd...hubby's first.  My first 2 are 15 & 17.

Unisom is very safe to take (in fact I take it nightly to combat severe morning sickness and did for my first 2 kids as well).  It knocks me out pretty well - but I can stay awake if I concentrate on it - but it's not something I would take and drive (just to give you an idea of it's strength).  I've been getting good night's sleep - even when I wake up to pee several times, I usually fall back asleep easily.  And I'm not drowsy in the morning (I usually take one tablet around 9pm and I'm up around 6 for work).

  • Tylenol PM, Simply Sleep or Benadryl is safe to help you sleep during pregnancy.

That said, you will still wake up to use the bathroom Smile

Better get used to it now, that part never goes away.

Welcome & congrats!  Unfortunately, just like everyone said, first trimester is a b***h!  You're just tired all the time and couldn't get enough sleep.  Just listen to your body and sleep when you can.  The hardest part for me was trying to stay awake at work.  I was so drained, I really didn't know how I would survive the day!  But it does get better.  I am finally moving into my second tri and starting to get some energy back.  I am also an insomniac, which I had even in my first trimester.  Before I got pregnant I had to take ambien to sleep.  Now I take Tylenol PM and it helps.  Of course, I am still up all night peeing, but at least I am able to fall back asleep.  Good luck and do your best!

  • Congrats. I am a first timer at 41. Benadryl is safe to take, and always knocks me out. You can also take melatonin, though I think Benadryl works better.
  • Congratulations and Welcome! Wishing you a healthy and happy 9 months. First trimester is terrible, however you will get through it. You have to try different remedies to see what will work for you. You have to take it one day at a time. Congrats also on your upcoming nuptials.

  • congratulations on your baby on the way and your wedding, first trimester was horrible for me, nausea 24/7 and tired,,,but the minute i hit 4 1/2 months it went away,  now im enjoying every minute of this pregnancy, good luck

I was 42 when i got pregnant and will deliver at 43, its my 4th and hubbies 1st.

  • Congrats and welcome!  I'm also a first-timer at 42 - thought I was the only one.  I'm at 10 weeks today and the exhaustion is just starting to let up a little bit, so don't despair.  Hopefully you'll at least be able to enjoy your honeymoon.  My only suggestion would be to have your SO do as much as possible with the wedding planning. Smile

  • Thanks Kristin.  Glad to see I'm not the only one!  I am trying to have a little help from my husband, but he's in school - so it's a little tough.

I'm going to try the Benadryl, thanks.
