Personally - I'd try every single thing you can to get that baby to flip... I would try to find a chiropractor skilled in the webster techique (they will adjust your pelvis to give baby room to flip (if possible!) but they do not actually physically turn the baby); visit an accupunturist for moxibustion - they'll give you the stuff to do it (with help) at home; and if necessary, have an ECV. I would ask for a few opinions on the ECV as well.
A quick history of my birth:
Baby was breech from 28weeks (at our elective 3d u/s) but I was assured, both by that tech, and by my ob, that we had lots of time for baby to flip. (This is true, but I'd highly highly recommend starting chiro treatments as early as possible for it to work!!!) By 36 weeks, we were still breech and talking ECV.
I had some cramping pains one evening and (knowing baby was breech and vaginal delivery was not an option) I went to the Labour/delivery at the hospital, they did another u/s and the doctor determined an ECV wasn't an option. I told my OB the name of the Doctor who made that assessment and he basically told me that she had the most experience of any of the doctors in our area and she also had the best success rate, and if she said no, then no one else would try it! So a c/s was scheduled.
The c/s went off very successfully and I do not regret that part at all. However, I did get an infection in the incision at the hospital and I have had nothing but problems with it so far. I currently have a hole in my abdomen about 2inches wide, .5 inches tall and 1.5 inches deep - I have a nurse coming in every other day to pack it. Apparently this is quite common. I do not want to scare you but I do want you to do everything in your power to avoid the c/s.
It is a bit depressing to be about 2 months out from surgery and to still be dealing with these setbacks... I can't exercise, I can't have a bath (somethng I really want to do) and I really can't do all with DS that I'd like to do, because I've now been put back on lifting limitations etc...
Good luck - I'll be sending flipping baby dust your way!!!
I had my baby successfully turned at 37 weeks via ECV. I'd be happy to share the whole story with you, it's pretty long, I have it typed up in a message already. PM if you are interested in the details!
She is still head down, and we are just waiting for her to make her grand appearance!
I went to a chiropractor for the Webster Technique, 3x/week for about 3 weeks. I also had 2 sessions of moxibustion. I'm not sure which worked, or if it was completely unrelated, but the day after my last moxibustion session, I felt the baby turn. U/S confirmed it a few days later. I was around 36 weeks.
Jimmie, mama to Zoey (March 2011)
Losses 5/13, 8/13, and 3/14.
Expecting another GIRL! Carter Grace due on 12/25.
I don't want to scare you, but my ECV at 37 wks 2 days turned into an emergency c-section. Liam flipped, but when he flipped, the cord wrapped around his neck, and his vital signs plummeted. Doctors started calling out orders, and a nurse said, "You're having your baby now" and put an oxygen mask over my face. He was out a few minutes later... It was very scary, but he's five weeks old now, and we're both doing great.
I've heard there's .5% chance this can happen with ECVs, so I was pretty confident everything would be okay going in and never really took it too seriously that this could happen to me...
My DD#2 was breech at 32 weeks and still at 34 weeks. I started
freaking out at the end of 34 weeks. If she was still breech at 36 weeks
I was going for a ECV at 37ish weeks.
I found a chiropractor that
did the Webster technique to help align my sacrum (I think that's what
it is called). I did 3 (that's it) adjustments 35 weeks, 35w2d, and
35w5d. I started acupuncture (burning the moxa sticks at your baby toes)
at 35w1d. I did that again at home at 35w3d and 35w5d. I did a lot of
focused thoughts of telling the baby to turn. I did the hands/knees
position a handful of times but it is really uncomfortable for me.
At
36 weeks she was NOT breech....again at 37 & 38 weeks she was head down. My
doctor actually said she is "locked and loaded" in there because she was
so low.
You still have time for baby to turn.
I successfully had a vaginal delivery with induction at 41 w 2 d.
