On Friday I noticed Brayson's voice sounded like it was changing. He sounded really hoarse and over the weekend it was hard for him to get a cry out. Other than his voice he was totally normal. Not cranky, no fever, not acting different. So today I took him to the doctor. He is normally a pretty vocal kid. He will talk back almost all the time I talk to him. Today at the doctor when she wanted to here it....all he wanted to do was smile. He did talk alittle but of course you couldn't hear it well. But she said his heart and lungs sounded fine. She did take a throat culture just to be sure there's not an infection, but she said he seems like a perfectly healthy little boy.
She was doing all the little tests, like for reflexes and such. She shook her keys by his ears and he didn't respond when she shook them by his left ear. She said normally babies react by moving there head in that direction. He didn't do that. I have noticed almost since he was born he does favor his right side, even when looking around. He will look to the left sometimes, but mostly its to the right. Now tomorrow we have an appointment with an audiologist for a hearing test. I wasn't freaked out until tonight now that I have been thinking about it all day. So I'm asking everyone for all of their thoughts and prayers that everything turns out fine. I am trying to stay positive but it's so scary that I went in for one thing and she noticed another. LO isn't sttn yet but I don't think I will be getting much sleep anyway. I will hopefully have a positive update tomorrow.
Re: Thoughts and prayers for Brayson please
In regards to the hoarse voice, does your LO have reflux at all?
Also, sorry you having to go through that. It is horrible thinking anything could be potentially wrong with your child.
Thoughts and prayers going out for Brayson.
Oh no, my stomack feels sick for you.
I had a scare like this when my DS was a noob, he failed his hearing tests a few times- slept right through them, and never moved at the sounds. I was super freaked out, but as he got a month or two older he was just fine. The audiologist said it was probably amniotic fliuid trapped in his ears by earwax, and that if 3 months had passed and nothing changed to take him back. That probably was it, he was just fine.
I hope this is the case with you too.
Did he pass the newborn hearing test ok when he was born at the hospital?
