When I became pregnant, I always had this thought that my baby would come right on her due date..well I guess that is in a perfect world. ?My due date was 11/20/10 but unfortunately the little stinker just didn't want to come, which was crazy because when I was around 31 weeks I was put on bed rest for a few weeks due to contractions. ?I was so worried about her coming too soon then she WOULDN'T COME!! ?
?At my last appointment (2 days before Thanksgiving) I was already past my due date and very ready to have her! ?I thought I would for sure have my baby before Thanksgiving but I was very wrong! ?My doctor stripped my membranes (for the second time in a week) but again, nothing happened, so she scheduled me to be induced on 11/28/10. ?That day (Sunday) I had to wait until 7 p.m. to call the hospital to see if I could come in to get induced or if I would have to wait until the next morning...they let me come!! ?That day was all kind of a blur because I was so full of anticipation. ?DH and I went to the mall and got me some new pajamas, a robe, and a new outfit to come home from the hospital in...it was our last outing just the two of us ![]()
We live in Utah, and in November, we get a lot of snow, obviously! ?It started snowing that afternoon and did not let up! ?He actually snowblowed the driveway twice in a few hours. ?We were scheduled to be at the hospital at 9 p.m. and I just knew we should've left the house earlier!! ?We left around 8:20 p.m. which I thought was plenty of time, but that damn snow!! ?The hospital is about 15 minutes away from our house...we got to the hospital at 9:20 p.m.!!! ?I was so worried that because we were late they would give my spot away, as if it were a dinner reservation or something. ?The nurses were very understanding of the snow and just said to get there when we could safely. ?
?Once I was at the hospital they hooked me up to the monitors and checked to see how dilated I was, I was at a 2 and had been for 2 weeks! ?They then inserted Misoprostal...not so glamorous! ?The doctor on call (since my doc was just flying in town and would be there the next morning) told me to just hang tight and that she would check on me in about 4 hours. ?Well those 4 hours were not as bad as I thought. ?I started contracting quite a bit but nothing that I couldn't handle. ?My hubby and mom were in the room with me and we were watching SpongeBob...gotta love that show! ?The doctor came in around 1:30 a.m. to check me and I was at a 5, that's when the contractions really started hurting! ? They offered the epidural at that time which I graciously accepted; they also started me on pitocin. ?The doc came in to administer the epidural and went over everything that she was going to be doing which was very helpful to me! ?I am usually so afraid of needles and pass out at the sight of them, good thing I couldn't see it
?She had me sit up and right when I did, all the fun started. ?Ok, so not the fun but the DRAMA! ?I immediately started throwing up and the baby's heartrate went from 140 to 80!! ?She was obviously under a great amount of stress so in a matter of seconds my room was full of about 10 doctors and 10 nurses! ?They were poking, turning me, rolling me and everything else in order to get her heartrate back where it should be. ?I ended up having to lay on my right side, that is where she was most comfortable. ?I then got my epidural laying down because they basically didn't want me to move. ?The doctors then turned off the pitocin?because she wasn't reacting well to it. ?
After the epidural was in, I was in heaven! ?My DH had brought movies to the hospital so we turned on Date Night and I crashed. ?What was so weird though, I fell asleep and I guess I was so comfortable that I woke up gasping...you know, how you basically startle yourself awake? ?Well after that happened 3 times in a row, I just decided to stay awake. ?
The doctor then came in around 6 a.m. and broke my water, I was then at a 8!! ?I kept that little epidural button pretty close to my hand because I was really feeling it in my back
?
Around 7:20 a.m. the doctor came in to check me and I was at a 10!!!! ?I was so excited to finally meet my princess! ?They told me to hold off on pushing because my doctor was en route to the hospital. ?No worries, I had no pain so take your time
?As soon as she got there she said to start pushing so she could kind of make a "guesstimation" on how long she thought it would take to get my babe out. ?Well she said I would probably have to push 5 times then she would be out...well she was wrong...it took 3!! ?I pushed for a total of 10 minutes and BAM Kennidi was here!! ?
?She was absolutely perfect weighing 7 pounds 1 ounce and 19 1/4 inches long! ?After they placed her on my tummy and everything was calming down a bit they told me something SO CRAZY! ?Her umbilical cord was tied in a "true knot"! ?Not only is it very rare?(1 in 100) but I had the exact same thing when I was born. ?
We stayed in the hospital for 3 days and went home with the most perfect angel!! ?We are just loving her so much!!!?
Re: Kennid's birth story...a little late but at least its done :)
