Babies on the Brain

Is there anything I can put in the bath for diaper rash?

Oisin had a raging case of diaper rash, thanks to a raging case of diahrea.  I'm putting triple paste on it and putting a probiotic in anything I can get him to eat, but it's tough.  He doesn't want to eat because his stomach is upset.  Anyway, he's taken 2 baths today because of it.  I'm using the super gentle baby soap, but is there something else I can do?  The bath soothes it a lot after I clean him up and it's the only way he stops crying.  I feel so terrible and was wondering if there is anything else I can do for it.

  • When I had the chicken pox my mom put me in an oat meal bath. That might help?

I have no idea, really, but it might.

  • I've sprinkled baking soda in the bath and that seems to help DS.

  • Olivia is having the same problem today, the diarrhea and bad rash. I feel bad b/c she is walking around grabbing at her bottom all day and crying. I just put her in a luke warm bath, no soap and let him soak in the almost cool water.  That seemed to soothe her a bit.

  • I was just bored and lurking here, but I just went through this last week with my 18 month old.  A friend told me to mix equal parts of Desitin, Lotramin AF, and mint Maylox.  It cleared it up in 2 days, so I thought I'd share.

  • I don't think the oatmeal bath would do any harm.  I'd give it a try.

  • Make your own diaper cream of Maalox & Cornstarch. Uh-may-zing.
    Sadie is not impressed.

  • Maybe try an oatmeal bath? The pedi nurse told me to mix Lotremin and a diaper cream, it worked but it took awhile. I hope his little butt heals soon! Poor guy.

  • this might be a stupid suggestion but do you have any of the stuff leftover from your Sitz baths? I forget what it's called. I am just wondering if that would help to soothe him.
  • Honestly, it's not going to matter what I slather on him, until he stops shitting liquid.  I wish I could get some yogurt into him, but he won't touch it.  I even put the probiotic in his ketchup tonight, knowing damn well he would eat a lot of it.

Poor kid is just so miserable.

I've never done a Sitz, but I wonder if that stuff would help.  Hmmmm.  Something to look into.

I've heard they do this in the hospital... not just for the babes but also the elderly.  The mint soudns like it might be soothing.
