just got diagnosed with gestational hypertension :(

Boo! My blood pressure has been high the past couple of appointments so my doctor ordered a blood panel and ultrasound last week. The blood work came back good but my fluid level was lower than they would like. There isn't any protein in my urine to suggest pre-e but I've had some significant swelling in my feet. So today I was ordered for twice-weekly NST's and weekly ultrasounds to monitor little man. My doctor didn't seem too worried though and just let me know that if my BP continues to rise or if any of my symptoms get worse, we'll deliver. Anyone else in my boat???

Oh, that sucks!  I have low fluid levels and siginificant swelling, and have been having weekly NST's and ultrasounds.  At my last appt, my fluid level was slightly better, but it's still below normal.  My BP has been within the normal range though (high for me, but still within the normal range), and baby has been passing the NST's with flying colours.  I was also told to be ready for an early induction too... it's frustrating, but we just have to wait and see each week.  The weekly u/s's are kind of nice though, getting see my baby girl dancing around in there!

I was just diagnosed with gestational hypertension as well this weekend.  I spent the weekend in the hospital and have been discharged but am now on bed rest since it dropped when I was resting.  How much higher has your BP been than normal?  Mine has been almost perfect 120's/80's and it went up to 158/94 when I was working.

  • My BP has varied but it was 148/80something today when my doctor decided that he was going to officially diagnose me. He said I'm still on the line of being normal because it doesn't always read so high so we'll see. I'm glad that he's being proactive to monitor the situation and Friday is my last day of work so once I'm just at home resting during the day I hope things will get better! Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone in this! :)

  • My doctor diagnosed me with it as well. My blood work has been fine and fluid levels look good but I'm doing twice weekly NST's. I'm glad baby is being monitored!  Hopefully it won't turn into anything more.

  • In  the same boat. I have apts now on mon and fri every week. boo. We did a stress test on her today and looked great and my bp was down so was my weight but if i go back fri and bp is up my dr doesn't have a problem going on and doing a section. I do however have some protein in my urine still so it's a given my GH will move along to pre e so we are planning on delievering by week 37 which gives us 2 weeks at the max. GL to you,

  • Oh wow!  I was in L&D last week for similar issues (swelling, head aches, BP raising).  My dr sent me home with a list of things to watch out for saying he's worried about the pregnancy induced hyptertension (as he called it) and pre-e.  So far I'm just doing weekly appts.

    GL to you!

I did, I think I was the same gestation as you when I found out too.  That was quite the doctors appt that day!  I have to go in twice a week and get NST's every time and once a week, get an Ultrasound to check fluid levels.  I haven't had any protein in my urine either, but my BP has been in the 140-150's/85-90's range with a few in the 100's on the bottom.  I keep hoping she'll deliver earlier than 29 weeks since DH leaves for deployment before I am due.  I was put on bed rest too, but I kind of don't always abide by it.  I did get a BP machine so I can check it at home too, that way if I'm feeling weird or off, I can see if it's my BP or not.  Good luck with everything and I hope all goes well for you!
