1st Trimester

for those of you with twins

Did you "know" before you knew that it was twins? Were your symptoms stronger than expected? How soon did you feel symptoms? Or did you just found out via U/S?

Re: for those of you with twins

  • I feel like my symptoms are stronger then with my first child and that they came on sooner but that could just be cause it is my second child.  BUT when I went in for an ultra sound at 7 weeks, there were 2 babies, one had stopped developing at 5 weeks though....so I dont have twins but it started out that way.  Do you think you are having twins?? do they run in your family?

  • Nope, the (early) pregnancy felt the same as the first one.

I'm not sure or not. My mother thinks I am, and yes, it does run in our family. I'm nervous for my first appointment!

  • I "knew" before my first u/s. I had several factors that increased my chances of having twins (PCOS, Clomid, genes).

  • Hey, I'm an Autumn too  :)

I didn't have any symptoms before I found out it was twins, so I can't say there was any indication.  We did IVF and transferred two high-quality embryos so we knew there was about a 50-50 chance we'd end up with twins, but it's still a shock to see those two little sacs and hearts beating up there on the screen!

Some docs will do an ultrasound at your very first visit, you should call and ask if you already have an OB you see.  Mine wanted to see me between 6-8 weeks and did one at that first visit.

Wow. I'm really nervous now! I'm still getting over the happy/excited/nervous shock of being pregnant, I can't imagine how I will react if it is twins. You are probably going to think I am an idiot (haha) but the reason my mother thinks I may be (and she's a nurse, too) is because when I took the test, it was immediately positive. Then in my little freak-out mode, I wanted to take the second test but couldn't pee anymore so I dipped it in the toilet without even thinking. Another BFP a few seconds later. She says that could mean I have a lot of hcg in my urine for being so early...

I'm anxious to see that ultrasound now...ahhhhh!
