I have heard people using them to make window valances and crib skirts.
The set I got doesn't come with a valance, so instead of paying money for one I am using them to make a valance. I haven't done it yet, so we'll see how easy/hard it is to do. I have breathable bumpers on my crib for DD right now.

I was given a set of these by a friend. I haven't decided if I will use those either... I'll have to see how they look with the rest of the bedding. It already comes with a crib skirt and a valence, so I thought maybe making wall hangings might be something I could do instead.

You could totally do this. If your bumper has animals or something on it just cut them out and mount them in frames. It would be really cute! I was going to do this if we got a bedding set, but we decided against the set and just went with the fun stuff that matches it (so no bumper, quilt or patterned sheet, but I have a blanket, wall art and a few other odds and ends).

Re: Bumper pads
I think I saw someone mention using them as a border around the mattress. Definately save them, you may want them once the baby gets older.
