baby shower timing

So, when does everyone usually have their baby showers? My mom told me it's customary to have one around 7 months, but who really follows customs any more... I also have seen some posters that are around 20 weeks saying they have already had showers. I haven't even started a registry yet!

Typically it happens some time in the 7th or 8th month but like you said it can really happen anytime. It's really up to your availability and the host's. With my last pregnancy I had 2 showers when I was 4 or 5 months along. The reason being because I'm a teacher and was due in Sept. so it was easier for work to put together a shower in May/June instead of scrambling when the new school year began. The second early one was the friend shower and since a majority of them are teachers as well they already had a ton of summer plans so this ensured everyone made it.

Mine is when I'll be 31 weeks. I didn't want to have it too early (to avoid side-eye from guests), or too late (when I would be too big and uncomfortable to really enjoy myself). But you can have it whenever you want, I think.

I would highly recommend registering sooner than later if you are doing it in store. I waited till I was about 7 months along and roaming the aisles of BrU with swollen feet made me cranky!

I'm about as far along as you and I plan on having mine around the end of July and beginning of August. I want to make sure I am showing a lot, but at the same time I want all of my baby stuff ready for a "just in case I go early" scenario.

I will be having one in week 28, because that's when I'm visiting my family on the other side of the country, and I'll probably have one where I live with my friends closer to my due date.

I told my mom I would like to have my shower before I go back to school at the end of August so I can get the nursery ready. So, I will have my shower around the middle of August and I will be about 27-28 weeks.

They seem to be getting earlier.

When I was growing up, I think it was customary to have them the month before. I looked and a lot of etiquette guides say one month prior. Every shower I'd been to, the moms seemed VERY, very pregnant.

Now I think it's changed so much and maybe it's "normal" when mommy starts to look pregnant... I know I can't wait to have one and it seems like the earlier the better, as for planning and as it will get busier before.

I'll be having mine at 7 months. Anytime in the 3rd trimester is generally when most people have their showers. I've heard some people having theirs before that, or even after the baby arrives.

Since I live 9-10 hours away from my family, I didn't want to face a long car trip deep into my 3rd trimester so when asked by my aunt and cousins when I'd like to travel up for my shower, I mentioned the end of July - far enough along to look significantly large but not so large that I'll be uncomfortable in the car. I'll be about 31 weeks along. When you're in the car for that long and pregnant, you could really care less about "etiquette".

I'll be 32, almost 33 weeks for my shower. It was originally planned for almost 35 weeks, but I'm nervous about having everything put together in time in case she comes early.

Mine are at 30, 33 and 35 weeks. We're flying for the one at 30 weeks, driving out of town for the one at 33 weeks, and staying in town for the one at 35 weeks. I'd have preferred the one at 30 weeks be a week or two later, but we're doing a shower weekend--mine on Saturday and my sister's on Sunday since we're due the same day so we had to find a weekend we both were free.
