I normally love grocery shopping, but lately I've been putting it off... I've only left the house twice in the last week... well.. I guess three... Tuesday, I picked up DH's dry cleaning, got more dog food and did light grocery shopping (for fresh veggies we needed). Wednesday, I dropped MILs friends off at the airport... and Saturday, DH, DS and I went furniture shopping and took a brief stroll through Target.
Anyway... I need to go grocery shopping today. We usually have 3-4 half gallons (or MORE) of milk in our fridge. Right now, we have about 8 oz of soymilk... and that's IT. We have some stuff in the freezer/pantry for two more meals and then we're out of meat. COMPLETELY. I have plenty of pantry goods, but not "meal" stuff if that makes sense.... and yet I can't make myself do the prep work to put together a grocery list. ::sigh:: someone do it for me!
Re: I'm procrastinating... won't lie
That's when I just go to the store and wander around (as best I can with two little ones) and end up buying tons of crap and spending too much money.
So, make the list and hop to it. Although, i have no plans to leave the house today because it's a disaster and needs tons of TLC. So far I've cleaned 1/4 of the carpet in the living room. It's gross and needs some serious help.
Can you make pizza with some pantry staples and leftover toppings? I know I have all the ingredients on hand to make fab pizzas except pepporoni and currently am out of canned tomatos for the sauce (frequently have these on the shelf from when on sale). Good the Cooks Illustrated/America's test kitchen recipes - they have both deep dish that uses a cake pan (or that's what I used) and thinner crust.
Or think through some tried and true recipes that use your pantry items plus a few non super expensive ingredients? And if you're not feeling the cooking this week maybe something for the crock pot for tomorrow?
I have pepperoni, but no cheese or sauce (or tomatoes FOR sauce). The other meals we have planned are pork chops and rice with broccoli... and homemade chicken nuggets with green bean casserole and I think I have some sweet potato fries in the freezer too.
The two meals I have in mind getting goods for a a chicken salad with apples and raisins and paleo tilapia tacos if I can find bibb lettuce (grocery store didn't have it last time and DH didn't like it with romaine). I might have enough chicken for greek kabobs and a greek salad too....
