Does anyone have a water/sand table?

LO looooves to splash around in the dog's water bowls, so I'm thinking about getting him something a little more appropriate to play with. Does anyone have one of these? Does your LO like it? Any thoughts about getting one that just has water vs. a sand/water one? We wouldn't put sand in it now, but I'm thinking about farther down the line. On the other hand, I don't know if I want to deal with the mess of cleaning up sand (or mud that results from sand + water) on our patio.

I'm thinking of something like this:

Re: Does anyone have a water/sand table?

  • I've seen them at BBB, and thought about getting one.  I'm curious to see what other people have to say.  I'm a little worried about the space aspect since we live in a TH...

  • We have the first one and a separate sandbox. The water table was a life saver last summer. Personally, I like to keep them separate so we don't end up with a big mess.  As it is, I have a hard time getting DS to keep the sand in the sandbox.  the water goes everywhere which I don't mind.

  • My friend/coworker warned me never to get the water/sand table combo b/c it just turns into a muddy mess that you keep having to clean up. She said her kids love the water table and recommends just getting that.
  • We have a water table and a sand box and DD loves both.  We actually have them next to each other but DD doesn't really put the sand in the table.  The sand in box and patio might get wet, but eventually it dries out.
  • My ILs got DS the Step 2 one from Costco for his birthday - we've only had it out once so far, but he absolutely LOVED it. As of right now, we're just using it with water and will probably continue to do so through the summer. I think it's going to be a lifesaver with the new baby - when I'm too tired to attempt taking 2 kids to the pool, we can just sit in the shade and DS can play with it.

A friend of mine has a 2 year old and 4 year old and instead of sand, uses fish tank gravel. That way the kids can load up their dump trucks too. Personally I don't want to risk the choking hazard with a baby around, but it's a nice idea if your kids are of the age where they don't still put everything in their mouths!

  • We have the first one you listed and the kids love it.  The way they splash around in it I can't imagine having it be half sand, not to mention cleaning them off after playing in water and sand sounds like a pain.  Whereas playing in water is actually cleaning them.  Here they are enjoying it last summer - and they look so little I want to cry at how big they have gotten in the paqst year  Crying

  • We have the Arctic Splash one and a separate sand box as well.  I like keeping them separate for the clean-up aspect, but we've also been able to use the sand box in weather that's not nearly warm enough for the water part.  DS loves both.

  • we have the arctic one and my kids love it.  They are ready to start playing with it again now, though I told them it has to get a little warmer first!

  • We are getting one for DS soon, we are in a townhouse and don't haev much space out back...here are the 2 we are deciding between: we would also ONLY USE WATER!:-)

  • We have this one for DD and just put water in it. She LOVES it!  We have it on our front porch and I'll sit on the porch swing and she'll play and play in it while sit back and relax.  :)

  • I got the water wheel Step 2 table for the boys last week. We haven't broken it out of the box yet, but I think they are going to love it.
