What to take for allergies?? HELP

I am suffering from major allergies for the first time in my life and it's killer and I have no idea what Im allergic to or when it's going to go away......

My dr said I could take sudafed which I took a few times yesterday and once today but I just looked up of safefetus.com and it's only rated a C so know Im not only feeling HORRIBLE guilty for taken it but don't know how Im going to make it thru allergy season w/o a little relief from the coughing, stuffyness, and clogged sinuses causing me headaches...

Anyone else's dr reccomend something. I'm going to call tomrorow but would love to hear from other's with allergies.....

  • You can take Claritan and Benadryl.

  • Benadryl. I actually take it for sleep at night but it's for allergies.

  • I take Zyrtec every night and the dr. said its perfectly safe. It really helps my allergies. I take it at night cause it makes you drowsy, but last almost 24 hours.

  • Zyrtec is rated a B. I was on it before I got pregnant and my Doctor said it's safe to continue.
  • I always severe allergies every spring.   I was using Zyrtec regularly before and my OB told me to stop and switch to Benadryl.   I heard mix opinion on Zrytec.  Though my OB won't recommend it, when I did my online research, I found many women have been taking Zyrtec without a problem.

Then again, my OB told me not to ... :/

  • Oddly, my dr told me to not take bendryl in the first trimester. I'm really not sure why as it seems like others say it's safe? Anyway, zyretc and claratin are on my "approved" list for allergy medications. I take zyrtec 24 hrs but I'm still finding that I'm sneezing throughout the day, so I've incorporated the netti pot (cleans your nose out, kinda gross). The two together seem to help. Good luck! Allergies suck!

  • My OB said Zytec, regular Claritin (not D) and Benadryl were fine. I'd ask your doctor to see their opinion.

  • MY OB and my family dr recommended that I stop taking my Zyrtec and other RX for allergies. The OB told me to avoid all allergy meds the first 12 weeks.

  • My doctor said Zyrtec is just fine. I used to have a prescription but then I stopped and started buying over the counter. Of course, over the counter is a LOT more expensive because insurance doesn't cover it. My OBGYN actually wrote me a prescription for Zyrtec without even doing any tests (awesome!), and the prescription was generic and cost me $2.50 instead of $45 for the over the counter stuff.

  • My PCP said to take zyrtec only if I really need it.  She also prescribed an eye drop and flonase, which she thought would be better because it doesn't actually enter the blood stream.  I'm also doing a saline eye wash and saline nasal spray - both of which have been helping quite a lot.  I'm going to see my OB next week but I expect her to have the same advice.
